23 years in this business and I've can't remember a cold season like this!!!! I have 6 under 3 and and 4 of them keep getting runny noses and coughs that wake them up.I literally use a box of tissues a day...and every other minute am wiping noses and washing my hands. I clean the toys...We wash hands constantly!!
WHAT am I missing? The kids are not sick to the point of exclusion according to my policies. Any ideas? Thanks!

We're going through the same thing over here. All winter we were healthy and then February hit and it's been one thing after another.

No advice because I'm in the same boat as you. Will be following this because I'm running out of ideas!

There is some nasty stuff going around this year! Every one of my DCK's, their families, my family, me-we all got it, and there have been some serious complications for some kids with this URI that we've all caught. Multiple trips to doctor, they're all on albuterol nebs, 2 hospitalized, some on steroids, most have been on antibiotics for secondary infections...I've never seen something wipe out a while town like this one has-it's not just my home or my town, though. I have friends 100 miles away who tell me it's the same there. Just keep washing everyone's hands, keep the toys clean, and get the kids to drink LOTS of water.

I recommended to all of my clients that they use elderberry syrup daily at home (homemade or store bought) to boost their child's nonexistent immune system. When they have a cold I suggest zarbees cough syrup because it has grapefruit seed extract and honey which helps knock out the cold sooner (I use grapefruit seed extract, without it in a higher dose, on my own daughter and it clears up infections remarkably quick ... like an antibiotic).

I diffuse kid safe essential oils (learningabouteos.com has a list of what is safe, and planttherapy.com markets certain oils as being "kid safe" and I believe other brands are doing so now as well!) when there's ickiness.

Clean with bleach twice a day when the ickiness is going around (at nap time and at closing) in the rooms they are in and the bathroom.

Wash hands often.

I also do exclude for a constant cough or a constant runny nose.

I had two kids like this who were constantly sick. I personally felt it was an allergy to dairy but no way was mom going to look into that. I started giving them smoothies with lots of vitamin D and probiotics. It really helped cut down on the colds. Probiotics are an awesome thing to give kids!

I gave each child a glass of orange juice every morning in my childcare. It really did seem to help. Vitamin C.

We eat a clementine (Cuties) every morning. Same principle different style. My babies, that are table eaters, come a crawling/walking the minute they see me pull a couple out of the fruit bowl lol

Oh yeah, we ate those too. They are great for kids as they are so easy to peel and they love to peel them.

I have the same thing here. 1 family who is CONSTANTLY sick with something. I even posted on my daycare fb page about milk and cookie disease (all three kids drink wayyyyyy to much "flavored" milk at home). Mom was even telling me how she goes through 8 gallons of chocolate milk a week, for her 3. These kids diet at home pretty much consists of sugar and dairy. Not surprising all 3 have constipation issues at home. My own kids and my other dck have been relatively healthy. I keep a salt lamp in every room, it's supposed to help with respiratory issues, plus it looks pretty.

My own ds7 has struggled this year. He's been sick with URI and sinus type infections about 8 or 9 times since August. I'm on the verge of contacting an immunologist.
