I just read the thread about the road trip. I'm also taking a road trip at the end of June and will be gone for two weeks. Our final destination will be Arlington Texas for 3 days and I'm leaving from SW Michigan.

We are taking one route on the way down and a different route on the way back so we can cover as many states as possible.

I haven't been able to come up with any fun stuff to do along the way there.

On the way to Arlington we will be traveling a route that takes us near Iowa City and Des Moines Iowa, Omaha and Nebraska City Nebraska, Topeka and Witcheta Kansas and Oklahoma City Oklahoma.

I will have my 10 yo and 17 yo grandkids with me...

You are really going to need more than 3 days in our part of the world! If you can manage it, you have to make time to go to Fort Worth. It's right next to Arlington-I think they share a city limits sign.

There is so much to do. If you can only manage one day, go to the Stockyards and see the cattle drive. They actually drive 15 or so longhorns down the main street, the cowboys are in period costume, and although I've seen it a dozen times, it still thrills me. During the day, the cattle are kept in a holding pen, and you can look at them and ask the cowboys questions and take pictures. There are a ton of things to do in the Stockyards alone.

The FW Science and History museum is great. It has the children's museum, cattle raisers museum, dino-dig, and an Omni. If you can interest you kids in art, we have some of the best museums in the world. Seriously, Sister Wendy said our MOMA was one of the top in the world.

Our zoo is great, and outside the zoo gates is a miniature train that travels about 5 miles, crossing the Trinity River twice. It's small, but perfectly comfortable for adults. My husband rode it when he was a kid, I rode it, all of his kids rode it, and all of our grandkids have ridden it with us. We are taking the day care kids this summer. ;-)

I can talk about the wonders of Fort Worth for many hours. It's amazing.

Sorry I can't help with places along the way. I rarely get outside the state.

I'm in Topeka- it's a pretty small city, and not at all a tourist destination. There is a zoo and a Kansas History Museum. In Lawrence about 20 min north there is a KU History Museum.

Wichita has a GREAT zoo- def would recommend that. My hubby is from OKC- he recommends Bricktown and Myriad Botanical Gardens.
