I have dcks who are aged almost 2 (3 dks), 3 and 4. I want to take them on more field trips but no where I couldn't manage alone. If you have kids in this age range, do you ever take them somewhere and if so where?

No where outside for now though since it's winter and I can't predict temps.

Honestly, I'm not brave enough to take that many kids out on a fieldtrip. This fall we finally started to go to the park across the street...with 2 2yr olds, I didn't feel I could safely watch them...too many things to climb and fall off of (plus we have a playset in the backyard). I prefer to wait til the kids are 3 to really go anywhere. In the past, I have taken them to the library for storytime, a few different parks in the area, Children's Musuem, McDonald's playland & lunch, and a city bus ride. The bus ride is their all time favorite and it's really easy to keep the together as a group. Parents loved it because it was free.

Why not try to have people come into your house? We have had a Community Service officer and Police Officers come several times and do a fun little talks about car seat safety, general safety, stranger safety, good touch/bad touch, one came and talked about household poisons and what they could be mistaken for; like motor oil looking like syrup and anti freeze looking like Kool-aide. We have also had a Nurse practioner (dcm) come talk about general safety for kids, and what to do if your caregiver or parent needs 911 etc. We have had firemen come and talk about "stop drop and roll" and fire safety. We have had lots of community service type people come and do talks/displays for us instead of us going to them. You just have to call and ask around...you'd be surprised how many agencies and organizatins are willing to help out when it comes to kids.

I've taken them on 2 trips so far. Once to the zoo with parent helpers and once to an indoor playground that is really great for crawling to Kindergarten ages and really easy to manage. I just wanted to plan something and not have it hinge on getting a parent volunteer. Maybe I should just skip it...

that is an idea! Do they come to home daycares i wonder? I don't have the biggest crowd. I have a friend who is a dental tech. Maybe she could come to talk about teeth during my dental health week.

I am a home daycare and only have 10 kids total so I don't see why they wouldn't be willing. Are you close to another daycare so you could combine for a bigger crowd? In the summer a family childcare two blocks down joins us for this type of thing and visa versa so it is good to network that way too.
