Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>How Long Do You Let Them Lay?

Usually at the end of rest, I pop open the blinds and turn on the light and as they wake, they get up off their cots. Well, the last few days, one has refused without a specific invitation to just them to get up-whatever, I just say, "dcb, you can get up" and up he goes.

Well, today 3 of them are just laying there. I turned the lights on and blinds open like 30 minutes ago. I have said numerous times that we should get up and moving and ready for snack before baby wakes. Nothing.

My ds gets home from school and asks why they are all laying there. I said I am tired of telling them to get up and get moving, so I'm just going about my own day. I made snack and set it on the table. Said that it was snack time and whoever's ready should come get it while its cold! Then set the timer and when it goes off, I'm going to put snack away. I am just so tired of repeating my self lately. Do I just let them lay or keep saying get up or take their hands and help them. I mean seriously, it's like it is their 1st day on a stinkin cot

You're complaining, why? (JUST KIDDING.) Everyone complains about kids not staying on their cots.

I've never had them not get up within a few minutes.

Maybe they're playing the quiet game except it's the stay on the cot game.

I don't think it's that. They have all been stubborn all week and not listening and I think it is because I asked them to get up

Ugh. Well, the snack bell went off and I put it away. One came looking and I said snack was over and it was playtime. I just got more hysterics for the day. I don't like not feeding them, but seriously it was there-waiting. And I even made "shakes" (aka fruit smoothies).

I have one late tonight and she has been a handful the last few weeks, but the not eating anything but breakfast today has made her even more of a handful. Why, oh why, did I agree to watch her past closing???

Sounds like the kids are testing you....I go through this quite often (or maybe it just feels that way) I always feel like a big meanie and complain to my dch that dc is just not fun anymore. I feel like I go through spells where everything goes smooth for awhile, no issues, and then suddenly....issue, after behavior after issue. I think the kids are testing me. I mean it will be things like, refusing to pick up the toys, when previously (a solid month)there were no issues. I'll have to say, "okay, well I guess we can't go outside to play because no one would pick up. I guess we'll try it again tomorrow." And we will stay in and do other activities. There is always crying and hysterics, but the next day they pick up the toys when I ask them to.

by this time Friday, the kids are sooooo worn out that I have the same issue. I start off by doing the same as you, turn on lights, open blinds, turn off soft music and go about my day. I call names and if they don't get up I start taking blankets. If they still don't get up, I then will go and have them roll of the mats so that I can put them away. Usually that does the trick.

We turn on "Rise and Shine" loudly with the blinds open and lights on. We have a couple of kids that really drag but after 10 minutes of ruckus they really can't sleep.

I do not wake children unless the entire rest of the group is ready to go outside, then I have no choice..They can sleep all they like here and they each sleep in a separate room.

Maybe these kids came from my house. My kids get a personal invite to get up. Simply because some kids are allowed to get up earlier than others. I will invite one up to help with snack and the others will stay on mat. I also have one slow to wake so she is invited up earlier than the others.

Hopefully this week they will cooperate better.
