Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Potty Training Question - For Those Of You Who Do A Little Potty Training

I see multiple potty training two year olds in my future...

My plan is that, once they're accident free at home for two weeks and can get on potty, pull up/down pants by themselves, I will have them wear undies with diapers on top here and take them to the bathroom every two hours. I will do this for two weeks and no more. If they're not successful by the end of the time, we can try again in one month.

My question is, what if that's not working? I'm not willing to do this for more than two weeks. What if we try it out and there are still accidents? How do I word it to parents that I won't be bringing the child to the bathroom and allowing undies under diapers if the child is still having accidents even when brought every one to two hours?

I'm thinking two accidents in one day=diapers only the rest of the day. But when do you say, okay let's try again next month? I don't want to go two weeks and have accidents every third day and at the end of the two weeks say OK, undies! AND I don't want to continue potty training beyond those two weeks.

What would you do?

I do something very close to this. I say for sanitary reasons if they have 2+ accidents a week then they wear pull-ups/diapers until accident free (dry) for a full 2 weeks again.

So do you do any potty training during those two weeks while they have a Pull-Up or diaper on? Or do you wait for 2 more full weeks of being dry and then start over then?

That's one reason why, until a child can verbalize they have to go BEFORE they go, I don't allow anything but straight diapers.

Then, I give it a few weeks of them telling me, me taking them etc. and when they are dry for two full weeks, they go into undies.

I do not take children to the potty every two hours.

IMHO, until they can tell me they have to go, they aren't ready.

But as far as accidents go, after the second accident in a day, they go back in I diapers until they are accident free for another two weeks.

It depends on if I think they're ready or not FOR REAL.
If so, then I take them to the pot every time big kids go. If not, I just ask if they need to when big kids go. But, my involvement completely depends on if I think I am wasting my time.

The transition back to underwear depends on dry diapers/pull-ups for a full two weeks. Not going to happen if they aren't dry.
