Do you guys wash it? Or just throw it back in the lunch/diaper bag?
Reply
Blackcat31 08:52 AM 10-18-2013
Toss it back in the diaper bag.

I am super picky about how my plastic containers get washed. I'd prefer someone just gave me back mine dirty so I can do it myself.

As a provider I am not kitchen staff for parents so I wouldn't wash it...but that's just me.

I rinse things (cups, food containers, bottles) but don't actually wash them.

I used to wash it but then my Tupperware supply grew exponentially lol I also stopped because just like you, I'm not kitchen staff. I was just wondering if it were just me and if it was rude haha,

I wash them, but its rare I get any because i don't allow food from home. I also wash them because sometimes the ones I get are so grundgy that its gross and I'm not going to partake in getting a child sick.

my kids bring their own lunches and I do wash everything. I feel like its part of the more friendly service I provide as a home daycare instead of a center.

I only had one boy who brought his own lunch but I only rinsed the dishes out, but didn't actually "wash" them.

I've never had parents bring in food/drinks/cups from home. If I did, they would get rinsed, lidded and put back in the bag.

I have one family that brings food. And some to share. Never junk food. I normally don't allow outside food either, but her food is healthy and she's my only kid eating table food right now aside from my son.. Also have a 6 mo old that just started purees. I'm into baby led weaning myself, but what can ya do? Anyway, I wash the stuff & send it back. If there were others, I'd probably just rinse.

I wash them thoroughly and dry them before I put it back in the bag. If you don't, the bacteria grows in the bag they are in, if it is a reusable bag. Besides the bacteria issue, this business is a service. Our parents are our bosses, they pay our salary, we work for them. Once you forget that you become like all of the other complaining daycare owners on this site who complain all day long about the parents. If you don't like this business- get out! Stop complaining.

These kids are our future, LOVE them! Help these parents by teaming up WITH them, not against them.

How hard is it to wash dishes? We have to have a whole thread on it? WASH THEM, omg! You are getting paid to do this! This is your JOB!

I don't agree with some of your comments, I do have to agree with the part about how hard is it to wash them. I thought it was weird to just rinse them, I even had dh install a pump to my sink base for quick and easy washing (or handwashing)

I just rinse and put back in their cubby for them to take home. I only have kiddos that bring thermos of milk. My washing kitchen sink is upstairs, so I don't get the opportunity to wash whenever I want. When I used to have my kitchen sink in the daycare, then I washed them with the rest of the dishes at nap time. Sometimes not. Parents don't seem to care either way.

I just rinse and send them home for the parents. If I happen to be running the dishwasher during the day I might toss it in, but that is rare.

I guess it would depend on the day, but probably just rinse and put back. When the kiddo goes off to school, the lunch staff doesn't hang around and wash the kids things.

It's never come up but I would probably just put it back in, rinse/wipe off if the outside got messy, but I don't even rinse or wash bottles. It's just not something I do. No one has ever commented on it or complained.

Do you feel like you are giving your parents the best level of service by giving them back sour bottles? That must be really gross every time they open them up at night to wash them. I'm not sure how you can even think that is ok to do? It's just plain rude and gross!

For those of you that worry about this;

When a parent takes their lunch to work do you think that they wash their own containers after they eat or do they just throw them in the bag and bring them home.

When a child goes to school and take his\her lunch do they have a dish washing area set up for the kids or do they just toss them back in their lunch bag to go home?

I am not hired as a dishwasher but to care for the children. If I spent all the time washing their dishes the children would be affected.

I would just wash the dishes myself if this was reversed and a container came back to me.

When I just had 1-2 kids I would toss it in the dishwasher, now that I have a couple more, I put them in a plastic grocery sack, and put them back in the bag. My parents bring me grocery bags sometimes, so I appreciate that.

I have a child that brings her own milk, because dcm wants her to drink organic. I have always washed out the plastic container and thrown it back in her bag. I also hand wash bottles.

It isn't a big deal, I just do it and never thought much about it! I can't stand dirty dishes and it would bug me to send home a dirty bottle or container...but that's just me!

I don't allow ANY food from home or bottles etc.

I make all formula up here using bottles that stay here. I have a few of every kind here and parents bring one to stay usually too.

Call me a softy. For my special dcf I even make up his formula at night and send it home. I do it while I make his sisters tube feeding bag. Mom picks up at midnight and I knows helps her at those 3:00 am feedings. She's never asked me to and tells me often how much she appreciates it though.

I usually wash, but sometimes I just rinse. I mention it one way or the other at pick up.

Every now and again I send a cup or bowl home with one of my kids and when the parents bring it back they always mention that they washed it. For some reason I always wash it again before it gets used . I figure they probably do the same thing so it doesn't really matter one way or another .

I wash them. I only have a couple that do this though. I'm a total neat freak and I have terrible OCD though. It actually feels physically impossible for me to put something away dirty. I actually clean when I'm stressed out because it makes me physically relaxed and happy. I may not be the best person to take advice from though because I'm a little nutso when it comes to cleaning and organizing. I wish I could relax a bit on it. I probably need therapy, lol.

Are we daycare owners or employees? Which one?

I want to be an employee but I can't get my daycare parents to pay their employer part like unemployment and half the social security. I want to get half salary for every kid that leaves for 12-18 months until I find a suitable replacement. I wouldn't be in a big hurry to do that since I would be getting half pay on the slot.

It would be a rare parent who would want to be my employer if it meant they had to shell out that kind of cash.

I have breast milk containers I run thru the dishwasher but other than that I don't allow anything to be brought in and out.

If you want to wash them then have at it. If it's easier to toss them back in the bag then do that. My son took pack lunch for years and we didn't have a problem with bacteria. The teachers in the lunch room didn't clean his Tupperware.

If my daycare parents couldn't figure out how to clean a bottle that sat for a few hours in a bag they would be too dumb to understand my policies.

Wait, let me get this straight...... just because you are a neat freak and get physically ill when it comes to dirty dishes not being washed you think ALL providers should wash dishes brought from home?

You even tell one of them that it's rude to not wash dishes and that it's bad business practice. (I won't even comment on the working for the parents statement )

Then you go on to say that you wish you could change/relax a bit more about it.....

So instead of trying to focus on what you need to change, you post anonymously and take it out on other providers?

I will say, I agree with you but only about the part where you said you probably need therapy.

I don't allow food or drinks to be brought from home from anyone over 18 months.

For the babies on formula, I require a can of formula and a couple of bottles that stay here. I do wash/sanitize those, as they don't leave my house.

For the babies on breastmilk, I quickly rinse the bottles and throw away drop ins if they have them.

I have had a few that send homemade baby food in Tupperware containers, and I quickly rinse them. I make sure my families know that the things coming home are only rinsed, not washed or sanitized.

I wash them and put them back, but I'm already washing all the other bottles, cups and spoons. I work in a center so the lunch dishes go back to the kitchen. I don't end up with a lot of dishes to do each day. Since I have all babies, I do try to keep things as clean as possible. Most of my parents don't take things home, however.

senario #1 we wash their dishes and parents blame us if kid gets sick.. because we either didn't wash good enough or we left soap on the dishes.
(neither would be true)

senario #2 we don't wash the dishes and kid gets sick because parent didn't wash dish good enough and blames it on us
( these parents don't last long anywhere)

Scenario #3 we rinse the dish as good as we can ..put it in the bag and parent is responisible for washing their own kids dishes and we tend to all the other things that we are paid to do such as diapers, feeding, teaching, loving, cleaning and supervising

Why is it that people that put us down are always unregistered LOL

Parents do not pay me to wash dishes, I am not a babysitter. If I was and that is why they came here then maybe yes they would expect me to be their dishwasher.

So why do they come to my program??? For the hands on experiences I provide for their children. the fantastic learning program that excites the children and prepares them for school.

got to say if they wanted a dishwasher they would choose babysitter that spends her time washing dishes instead of a preschool/childcare providing experiences for their children.

I provide my own preferred dishes and bottles so on the very rare occasion that a client brings their own then I rinse the dishes/bottles and return them at the end of the day to be washed at home.

I wash all the morning and lunch Tupperware during quiet time but the afternoon snack Tupperware gets thrown back into the lunchbag because I don't have time to wash it with all my School Agers here and kiddies getting up from naps.

I have one parent who brings organic milk in their container and I put it in the dishwasher. It gets sent home whenever that load of dishes is done.

If I took infants and had bottles, I would only rinse.
