OK 2nd post of the day haha!

I have an almost 2 year old that I have had 4 days a week until dad lost his job. Then he came 1 time a week for a month. Well dad is back to work now and he is going to start back full time this week. Dad has been dropping him off once a week for the past month and it's been going so so. This week dad dropped him off yesterday and said, here ya go, good luck, he's been hitting kicking yelling crying etc. Then he said, you an put him in a corner, time out, beat him whatever he's been awful. Of course he didn't mean beat him, but I got the point. He was fine after dad left. Mom brings him today and he is throwing a fit crying, yelling etc and mom is the kind that just feels so bad. I told her it's just because he's off schedule, that we will need to do bye bye outside tomorrow. She says and I quote "that's just so hard for me to do". I said "harder than this?" Wow! Well "this" is harder for me to do, so we're not doing it anymore. I told her trust me, 2 weeks of bye bye outside and it will be cured. She just texted me and asked how he did this morning after she left. She says I hate it when he cries. Can you see me banging my head? I told her he was actually fine after a few minutes and that when her husband comes and gets him normally he does the same thing. She will be dropping him off and picking him up every day now. He is my first at 7:30 and last at 5:15, so we need to get this under control.

Oh us moms and our sensitive hearts.

I'd send them a text photo of him playing 30 seconds after drop off. I do this for one of mine who randomly began screaming each drop off (2 days per week) but is fine within 30 seconds and doesn't throw any fits for the rest of the day. So strange. I know it helps Mom to see that the child is playing and no longer screaming/crying, and it helps me because I'm not fielding questions about how the child is and having to give updates. I love cell phones for this reason.

I'm going to text her later and tell her that I'm going to do that. I have another dcb that does a similar thing, although not nearly as bad as this one and she's not out of the driveway and he's fine. So I've sent her pictures immediately so she can see the time on it.

I think it helps!

I do the photo thing too. I have some of the biggest drama kiddos here at dropoff. I send the dcf's on their way quickly, and usually get a text asking how their little one is. I send a picture of them, usually of them laughing and playing, because that is what they are doing.

Sometimes before mom/dad even makes it to the car!

She came in today and as soon as he started to fuss she was out the door. He threw about a 2 minute fit and then I took his picture happy and sent it to her. She thanked me and told me that she had a little bit of tears in the car over him crying. My daughter told me last night that last Friday when she watched him for 5 minutes because I had to leave early that he threw a holy fit when he had to leave and kicked and screamed and threw himself on the ground. I wish she would remember that when she drops him off and he does the same thing.

I have had this cartoon posted in my entry for about 25 years. I just re-copy it when it gets too tattered. I make every parent read it. Hope you can see it clearly enough.

He is angry to be at daycare and this is how it comes out. I have actually been researching this online because I have a dcg who used to do this all the time. Hit her mom, freak out etc. Turns out it is anger towards the moms and dads for leaving them at daycare. This makes some sense because he has been at home so a total new transition. He will get there just acknowledging his feelings of anger might help. The mom in my situation was a big drama queen too with the pretend guilt. At least mine was pretending

OH I WISH I COULD HAVE A COPY OF THAT!!! How perfectly accurate!

I would speak to Mom, and research articles about transitioning. If he is doing this at both drop off and pick up, this is not an 'upset to be dropped off' situation, it is a transitioning issue. Is he throwing tantrums during other transitions?

That cartoon is hilarious!! Love it!

He threw a 2 minute fit today, but that was better than Tuesday. Last night the second she walked in the door, he started spitting at her and holding back his arm like he was going to hit her. He did not do that all day. Then he ran into the kitchen and didn't want to go. UGH I told her, see it's not just when you drop him off, he doesn't want to go either. It's a transition issue.

Love the cartoon. Can't remember the comic strip name but I loved it as a teen, it was the only strips were the family grew up with you.
