Country Kids 02:47 PM 10-07-2011
Not sure how to post a poll but was wondering what the longest child you have had in childcare was, starting age till ending age.

My longest was 3 years (just turned) till 11.5 years, totally of 8.5 years. Had child clear through elementary school. I had another that was in 1st grade when started and just left to go to middle school so a totally of 5 years. Looking back I actually have had children quite a few years. I've done this for so long that it seems I have different children every few years but really probably only 1 or 2 every 3 to 4 years.

Ive only been around for 8 years, 3 in my current location. I don't take infants and never have, so three years I think would be the max.

I take ages 2-5 only

My longest 16 years. I got him at 14 days old, and kept him until he got his driver's license. Yes, his parents paid me to take him back and forth to school everyday.

I got his sister at 3 DAYS and was very sad when she got her driver's license last year. Dad dropped her off on his way to work in the morning, I took her to school and picked her up after and dropped her off at home.

I think my shortest was 2 mos. I had a baby who's mother called me continuously everyday, panicking if I didn't answer the phone by the 3rd ring..

I should add that I had the sister for 16 years, too.

I had 3 that were here for 6 years and 4 that was here 5 years. That's because I had a fdc for 7 years then went to work at a center then went back to fdc.

i had one from 2yo-7yo, two from a 14mo-5yo(one still here b/a, the other i have on half days/days off school), 7wks to 4.5yo (still here). I dont "do" school agers unless they have been here since babies.

Many of my dck do not stay as b/a school kids because there are many very low cost/free options through the schools and churches. I am not low cost. We live in a school district where 45% of the kids are low income, so that funds much of the afterschool programs, in some way.

All my current under 5yo dcks have been here since they were a couple months old.

I love that generational thing. I'm ready for the first batch to start sprogging me out some second generations.

That says SO much about your business.

Dig it

The same with my 17 yo. She comes at least once a week for dinner, still goes camping with us. She is so good with the littles.

I started watching C when he was six weeks, and stopped when I moved away, and he was 11 years.

There were others that all grew up with him, but they started coming when they were four, and stopped at age 11-12.

There is no market here for before and after school care as all of the schools have a program on site, but I do have kids that come back for the occasional day here and there when there's no school program. They normally come until they are 10 or 11, but I don't charge them for it when they're here, I just enjoy seeing them. I do keep in touch with several of the families that have moved on, the oldest kids are 16 now, as that's how long I've lived here.
