Alot of you will remember my dcb that is biting the tips off of his pacifier so I said he couldn't have it here anymore. That's fine, parents say fine, but he still has it at home. So, typically in the morning he either comes with it in his mouth and they take it out and say that he's not allowed to have it here and put it in his bag or it's just in his bag. This morning dad brings him and the dcb does not have it in his mouth, the dcb is just standing there and he plinks it in his mouth. I stood there with my mouth open thinking I can't believe he just did that. Then he tells me a couple of info tips for the day and then proceeds to take the pacifier back out of his mouth. Of course the boy was upset then. I finally said, you shouldn't have given it to him in the first place, he was fine without it. So he took it back out and put it in his bag. UGH, stupid stupid people. OH and then he said that he gave him benadrl last night because he had a runny nose and a cough. He had a runny nose and cough here yesterday too. I asked him if he gave him some this morning and he said no. So, I guess if he had the runny nose yesterday and last night, he's cured. Love it when people give their kids stuff to make their symptoms better at home, but not for here. Guess I'll follow him with a kleenex again today.

That just doesn't even make sense. Why would you even do that with the pacifier???

I think that Pacifier would get "lost" today. Or oopps, he got ahold of it and it fell in the toilet. If it starts to become an hassle to keep the pacifier at your house, they may start leaving it in the car or maybe even at home! I am sure he uses it to keep him quiet during the commutes too. Hmmm, I think it would get LOST today :~)

Oh yea he absolutely needs to have it in the car. Then the stupid dad puts it in his mouth and starts asking him questions. I said, maybe if he didn't have that in his mouth, he could answer you. Frickin idiots. I'm going to tell them next week to leave them in the car. Let mommy and daddy each have 3 of them in their cars. I dont' want them in here anymore.

I'm thinking dad did it out of pure habit. He probably had it in his hand after removing it in the car, and then, without thinking just popped it in the mouth.

I've seen people do that because they are just so used to it, they're not even thinking about what they're doing. NOT DEFENDING HIM in any way...just an observation I've seen of people popping the pacifier in kids mouths when the kids didn't even seem to notice it wasn't there.

I used to have a 3 1/2 yo still on a bottle at home and dcm brought it every day in her bag (with juice in it). I just left it in there all day and the moment the dcm got there, she would remove the bottle and give it to the girl who didn't even seem to remember it was there.

I don't get it either. That dad probably just doesn't think. I had a dcg a few years ago who was about 8 months old and didn't care about the paci too much. I would pick it up the first time it fell out of her mouth and pop it in her bag where it would stay the ENTIRE DAY.

mom would get there and FREAK out, "where's your paci?" and cram it back in her mouth instantly.

Thankfully they did NOT last long with me.

wow sounds like alot of the same kind of parents. I swear it's the parents that want it in there and not the kid. I have no idea why he stuck it in his mouth. The boy is almost 2 and he was just standing there. Not crying or fussing or anything. Even before I said he didn't need it here anymore, he never just walked around with it, only for nap. Then he always says, that's right, you're not allowed to have it here". Told him, oh yea, rub it in that I"m the bad guy. I think he's trying to make some sort of a statement to me by doing that. If I say that he doesn't have one here, there is no reason for him to have one in the bag. Keep it in the car.

my daycare parents are waaaaay more attached to the bottles, pacis, loveys, blankets, sippy cups than of the kids in my care. i have never had a child that upset when any of this stuff was taken away at my house.

Same here. Every morning the same dcb comes with his paci in his mouth, he takes it out and hand it to me while the mom is standing there. He doesn't want it, it's the mom and dad that wants him to have it, so they don't have to deal with the whinning.

oops...I am so sorry that dcb bit the tip right off his paci so I threw it out! Oh yeah, you are smart enough to not let him have it! I would so worry about choking if I were these parents!

I agree, set a rule that the pacifier needs to stay in the car- you should not be made out to be the "bad guy," especially when it is a dangerous situation (biting of the tip) and he doesn't need it with you anyways!

I think that I should take it out of the kids mouth and put it in mom and dads mouth. Say to them, well I think you need it more than he does bwahaha

I give that object to the parents as they're leaving and say, "I'll keep DCK and you can keep ___! " Usually the first time they'll stutter, "Oh uh k oh okay." Then, they just begin taking it with them when they go because they know either they take it or I force it into their arms as they leave and wave BUBYE!

I had to do that with a particularly stubborn parent once. After about a week of "lost" pacifiers they miraculously stopped showing up with one in the morning.

I want to know why they are giving Benadryl for a runny nose and cough since it's an allergy med.

I think because mom went out of town and dad was watching him last night. I think he thinks that the runny nose is due to allergies and the post nasal drip is causing him to cough. I dunno

Exactly this here too! I have a 2.5year old that comes with it every morning and immediately spits it out right into my hand or gives it to mom who puts it in her cubby. And there it stays all day. She's now finally even off of it for nap too after I got sick of having to pass out everyone's special nap habits I just ended it. Everyone gets a blankie and that's it. When she gets picked up, the dad immediately asks for her paci she 'needs' it in the car.
