Lightbulb Daycare Close if Schools Close?

I am a Director at a child care center and we have had very bad weather to the point of businesses closing. are any of your centers closed if school is closed? just want some feed back and help on this subject.

Some close for bad weather some close whenever school closes (planned and unplanned closures) so it's a mix of both yes and no. And a few "it depends"

Here are other threads about closing when school is cancelled https://www.daycare.com/forum/tags.php?tag=closings

Here most close when school closes due to staffing unreliability. Too many call out to stay home with their own kids since they cannot take them to work due to ratios or usable space (35 ft per child clear floor space) issues. The ones who don't call out typically are too young to be left alone with a room.

It is a catch 22.

It really comes down to your staff, ratios and space.

It also depends on where in the US you live.....

Bad weather in one part of the country is normal in another.

Exactly.

Having extra staff and space can still be profitable when school is out more predictably or if your program has a school-age gymnasium that can be opened by PRN staff and food catering with little notice.

At one time we would play it by ear on whether we closed or not but now we have decided to close when the schools close and to delay when they delay
