Default Ex DC Families Talking Smack

Have you ever heard what your termed families say about you and your business? My husband ran into an ex dcm's sister, and after they talked and figured out who each other are, she told him that they had to switch daycares because the last one was moving and wouldn't potty train. If you remember a few months ago i had a girl who was 'fully' pt'd at home but never once told me when she had to go. I required pullups and they didn't like that so they left. Dh said yeah she must have been doing better with her parents cuz she never told my wife when she had to go.

I have one ex dcf that is absolutely horrid! Well actually it's only dcm..but it might as well be the whole family. She pulled her son when I sent home the changes to the handbook which stated that they would have to pay even if their kids were sick, that I would require a two weeks notice of termination and that had to be paid regardless of attendance and a few other changes. This dcm was one that I had had many issues with over about 5 months prior to this and I had posted about them a few times regarding different things and the problems we had. Well, it has been almost a year since they've been gone and she just emailed me this week to basically bash me and saying, "who do you think you are?" and "how do you sleep at night?" and basically accusing me of abusing him. Telling me that if I think I can bully parents and their kids, I'm sadly mistaken and so on...this is also the same dcm that called me a natzi, selfish, stubborn, bi*** on facebook. To put things into perspective, I'm 24 yo and about 5'2" and pretty soft-spoken and do NOT like confrontation what-so-ever! I printed the email off (I didn't bother responding to her as it wasn't worth my time) but she also stated that anyone who asks she will be sure to tell them the truth about me.

Some people..I tell ya! The way I see it, I can't please everyone and the people that do know me know that I provide great care to these kids. I have plenty of referrals without her "help"

I had another ex randomly text me that she reported me bc her son was bitten. Said she had pics and documented everything and that she hopes i get shut down. She also said that my son threw things at her every time she came (he was 18 months old...and happened once when he got over excited.) In reality she was upset...probably because cps contactex her (she was termed for over medicating.)

Do you worry that these angry parents could ruin your business reputation?

Ps...i called licensing and she never did report me. Licensor said even if she did biting is something that is common in daycare

I think everyone worries. That's why it's important to document everything including conversations with DCP's. I always alert my licensor when I'm going to term a client to give them the heads up. In CA we get surprise inspections only about every 3-5 years because my licensor said that they are so busy investigating bogus reports that all have one thing in common ... they parent was terminated for breaking the rules. I think she said that about 60-75% of their reports are like that but they have to investigate nonetheless

Yep I just go ahead and call my licensor too. She has never had to come out yet but I was turned in for not giving a 2 week notice to a parent that cussed me out because I told her she had to start paying me ontime instead of whenever she got ready. And my consultant said you can term her whenever you get ready with no notice and she would have done the same. She cussed me in front of her children and mine and other DCKs.
THERE ARE SOME CRAZIES OUT THERE

I know she has bashed me to other people that know me. I have been told. Oh well I know the truth and thats all I say. let her talk.

you know, I am in CA too and I had to term a family last year. I took the advice on here to call ahead to my licencor and when I did she was pissed at me. She said why are you calling me what do you want me to do? You telling me is not going to help anything. If the parent calls in, I still have to follow it up with an inspection and file the report.

I felt stupid and didn't know what to say...

I termed a dcb once because dcm never paid on time after many warnings, put her ds to bed at 11pm and then brought the poor overtired little soul to me at 8am the next morning. The dcb also came to my home 3 times with headlice (DCM knew he had it but was treating at home and decided not to tell me because she didn't want to miss work.)
Anyway once I finally termed she ran all over town telling everyone I had been unfair and had termed for no reason. She was suggesting to everyone to not send their children here because I was unreliable. She blamed getting fired from her job on me because I did not give her notice and she was unable to find alternate care for over a week.
Sorry but it wasn't in the paperwork and I didn't feel like going on lice patrol again. DCB came in with head lice for the third time and I told her to hit the road. Honesty is the best policy. Had she told me he had head lice I would have been a lot more understanding but it was the sneakiness that set me off. This is my home and I do not need my entire family being infested with lice.
I don't let what she says bother me and I don't discuss prior daycare charges with others in my town so it is hard because I can't defend myself but I think my reputation speaks for itself and the many many happy parents trump the few inconsiderate and rude ones. I'm sure it is the same for you too

My licensor said one time that when a complaint is filed, there is a series of questions they ask to classify the complaints priority level. If the parent answer that the provider termed them, then they know the threat level goes WAY down. Also she said that even though complaints are made against you and they have to be investigated. The only time it becomes public knowledge is when you are found to be out of compliance with a regulation. So they could have 50 complaints but if they come and investigate every time and no evidence is found to back it up the complaint the only thing that parents will see is that a licensor came out on such and such date and was found to be in or out of compliance.

This is in Maryland anyway.

I had a termed family report me that I was witholding drink from a child. Because I wouldn't let their 3 year old walk around with a sippy cup at daycare.

wow that was rude. MY licensor appreciated me letting her know. She said if a valid complaint was made she would still have to come out but at least she knew what was going on.

That was just a un professional specialist. I have had some very good ones.
She probably was having a bad day. I have been told by them to always call when you term on a bad note. She is right about still having to come out and investigate but it is always good to give them a heads up.

I have called my licensers a handfull of times over the years in these situations, and each one of them has been happy I let them know. I've had several different licensers. Sounds like you have Ms. Grumpy!

Do it anyway. They still have to document your call. Maybe she thought you were venting to her? I always start with "hey...just wanted to let you know about a situation here..." or something like that.

I would have asked to speak to her supervisor and filed a complaint about her. They are there to help you, not make you feel stupid. That was a bad licensor and I feel bad that you had to deal with that.

I hope that she was just new and I would have just told her that I wanted it documented and in my file because I was afraid that she might be upset and file a false claim. Ugh, I hate that it happened to you.
