Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>I need help coming up with a part-time rate...

I have an inquiry regarding part-time care and I need help coming up with a part-time rate. I've only had full-time openings for the past few years so I want to make sure I give a PT rate that works for both the potential daycare family and me.

My full-time rate for all ages is $200/wk which is average in my area. The potential daycare mom is looking for care from 8am-1pm Monday-Friday for her 2 year old.

What does everyone think is a fair rate for this schedule? I was thinking of giving her a rate of $150/wk, but want to check with everyone here first. Thanks!

In my opinion 5 hours a day, 5 days a week IS full time. You're not likely to find someone needing just afternoon care, so the child is eating a FT spot. If you want a reduced part time rate, $150 is a decent discount. Personally, I'd say that they would need full time for the spot.

Mines is $30 a day or $8 an hour

I agree with previous poster.

I bill by the week and offer 3,4 or 5 day options.

I used to offer part time care but part time care could NOT include lunch or nap time as that is the hardest part of the day so if they needed care over the lunch or nap hours, they paid for the whole day.

If I had a client ask for 5 days a week with those hours, I would absolutely give them my full time rate but my full time rate begins with a 3:00 pick up time and goes up as the pick up time gets later.

If parents want to pick up at 2:00, they can but the bottom base rate they would get is the same for a 3:00 pick up.

I agree. At most, I would take off $25.

Anything over 4 hours is counted as full time here but if you really want to give her a discount, I say the $150 is more than fair.

I have a family that just signed on for 7:45-1 and are paying FT. I explained I couldn't fill a couple hours at the end of the day and they understood. Had the same situation for a family from 1-5 M-W, paid my full 3 day rate. You are still providing lunch, so I'd charge full!

Plus 8-1 may eventually turn into 8-2 or 3 or 4....can DCM guarantee pick up will be by 1 every day? If you charge her $150 and she starts picking up late, will your late fee be worth it?

I guess I'm just jaded...

If you are going to give a discount then you need yo make it clear that after one there will be late fees.

I would charge $175.00 and insist on 1pm pick-up.
