I don't know how many of you do Elf on the Shelf, but this one had me

Maybe because I have a particular picture in mind that this will be hilarious with!

My kids almost pee their pants sometimes laughing at our silly little elf!

Our elf "Melvin" draws mustaches on photos on the wall and then hangs from them making them off center. I just LOVE his little tricks and the kids reaction each morning. Each year we make a bed for his arrival and center so many crafts and projects around him and his tricks.

Our little Peppermint drew mustaches one time...the laughter from the kids made my day!

I didn't think of doing elf crafts...great idea!

You could present it in a ton of ways, sometimes he just appears!

The first time our elf came 2 years ago, we first found a present wrapped in shiny gold paper on our Christmas tree. It was the book that comes with the elf, explaining how he watches over the kids all day and reports back to Santa to let him know if they've been naughty or nice that day. Later that day he appeared on top of our hallway light...he wasn't there before...the kids were watching for him all day! He comes alive and flies back to the North Pole each night while the kids are sleeping. When he comes back he is found in a different place each morning and the kids have to find him. Some elves like ours are particularly mischievous and we find him in crazy places! The kids love imagining what he must have done while we sleeping based on his position! It's really funny!

We have an elf named Candy Cane. This is one of the things he did! I pinned it on Pinterest and it's been pinned over 800 times!

OMG thank you for posting this.

I showed my 6yr old and he starting laughing his head off then of couse said where is mine, why has he not come back yet?

I told him perhaps is was because he was being naughty. Maybe if he is good, he will be able to come back. He made me send him an email.

I can't wait to see more ideas of what everyone does with the elf......

last year our toilet papered our xmas tree......

This topic is hysterical! I remember Elf On A Shelf when I was little, and he looked exactly like the creepy little dude he is today!
I've heard other daycare providers having him play in flour on the counters leaving little hand and foot prints, or being caught with a note addressed to Santa with just one word, "BAD", on it. ..........
I'll be honest though.....sometimes I'm afraid, depending on the crowd I've got, I'd be planting seeds for devious ideas, rather then it being a game.

We've had Snowflake for a few years now and the dcks love him, ask about him all year long and can't wait til Thanksgiving when he magically flies back to visit us.
We're always writing notes to him and he writes back; remarks about an especially good day or bad one. Sometimes he leaves them a little gift such as Christmas pencils or candy canes.
And yes, he gets himself into trouble too. He had a snowball fight, leaving tiny snowballs all over our floor, got into the dog treats and found them all over the kitchen counter.
Most of the dcks have them at home too.

Its so weird ,but I must be to old to get this. How can an elf who works for Santa be so naughty?I am with the other poster who said "might give group ideas". I saw the bathroom elf and though I thought it was funny ,I spend so much time discouraging bathroom talk did not share with the kids.No judgement for those who have one just my opinion.

I know others who feel that way too. Our elf isn't naughty, just mischievous lol He is very curious and gets himself into a bind with his curiosity. For example one time he wanted to see the inside of a little Christmas house that we made but he got stuck! It was hilarious to see the elf crammed into the little house! The trouble for our elf is that his magic wears off before he has a chance to get out of his sticky situations

It gets the kids using their imaginations. We make up stories about what we think he did to get in that situation. The kids come up with some good stories! They wish they could see him in action. Often times they'll say "well THAT wasn't such a good idea!" (while laughing of course) like with the little house.

I think it creates a little extra Christmas magic, which the kids seem to be losing at a younger age these days. Also it gives us something to do during the long countdown to Christmas, it distracts the kids from "when is Santa coming???"

Our elf often does good things too. Last year on his first visit we found him sitting on a stack of presents! Each one was a book. There was a note that said to open one present each day until Christmas Eve. This was fun because in addition to finding the elf each day, we also had a new book to read! (they were books I picked up inexpensively at a second hand store) The last 3 were Christmas movies which was exciting!

I love the idea behind this, but I honestly find it creepy. Lol. I have a weird fear / aversion to dolls, so I'm sure that's why.

For those with a more twisted, grown up sense of humor, there's a Facebook page and website called Elf on the Shelf Gone Bad. H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S!!
