Love it! It is true that we don't have the village anymore. I would love to have the support of the community, and to be a part of a community the way it was when my mom was growing up, and even when I was growing up (but it was changing some by then).

Amazing read! I especially loved #3, the village. Moms do need to hear: "Hey, good work -- I know setting limits is hard." I am making a decision right now to high-five the next mom I see struggling through a grocery store with a screaming child!

sigh- cracks me up that every generation thinks the way they raised their kids is the right and best way. Bet in your time the music was better than today's too? lol

Your mother and grandmother probably had plenty of criticism for you, and in 30 or 40 years our kids will be saying the same thing, and then their kids, and so on.

I don't think anyone is saying that the way we raised/are raising our kids is the best way.

I think we are saying that as the world becomes smaller and more connected, people are becoming less connected as a community.

Socializing used to mean going to other people's houses.
(an opportunity for children to practice manners and social etiquette)

Now it means logging on to Facebook.

I love this! I see so many spoiled kids, it really hurts my heart. Whats going to happen when they are adults? Will they still turn to mom & dad to fix everything?
