Do I have to varnish salt dough ornaments after painting? If so, how many layers and how long does it typically take to dry? Thanks!
I usually spray mine with a clear enamel. It comes in a spray paint can. One coat seems to be enough. It seals them and gives them a nice shine.

I've never sprayed mine and there are some on my tree that are over 10 years old and they are fine. It would give it a nice shine though I might try it.

I spray mine (just one coat) or one year used clear nailpolish because it was all I had (and let's just say my planning was awful lol). Not sure how many coats of varnish, I would think 2 at the most would be plenty.
Forgot to answer how long to dry. I usually spray mine after the kids go home. Hate the idea of using aerosols around the munchkins. So, they dry overnight. But, honestly, it dries very quickly. Maybe 30 minutes?

Thanks everyone. I don't know why I am always scrambling to get parent gifts done. I know Christmas is coming, yet it always seems to get here way quicker than I planned!

I spray mine with a sealer. I think they look nicer.

I do a layer or two of Mod Podge. No aerosol, dries quickly. I like how much smoother they feel versus the unfinished.

Great idea! I tried this on 2 and liked how it looked, so I did all of them with Mod Podge.
