DCM says WTF all the time. I know her away from DC. DCG4 now is saying "What the...." A couple of times she almost said F***. I told her we do not say that here & explained some things are for what grownup, not for kids bla bla bla. She came in today & started in. I told her if I heard it again she was going to TO. I walked outta the room & she said it low & under her breath. Without skipping a beat, she went to TO. Kids press the boundaries cuz their parents do. Does any of your say this? Am I being too hard. DCG is a button pusher btw.

If you mean she just says "What the" and doesn't add anything to it then it wouldn't bother me. Reason being my grandkids and I would say that all the time BUT it was always short for "What the heck?" I used to say "What the heck?" as in "What the heck is going on here?" Then I wondered if someone would question the word 'heck' so just shortened it. I'm pretty sure that they had never heard the F word. They just thought it stood for heck and it did. My DS came home from school 2 yrs ago (3rd grade) saying, "What the." My then 2 yr old ds started saying it. I hated it! He eventually stopped when I really put my foot down with my older ds. I don't feel it's appropriate, but that's me. I would do what you did, especially since she said it right after you told her not to AND did it under her breath. She knew what she was doing (not listening to you), she's 4. If you really want it to stop, you might have to step it up more and even take a privilege away.

I also feel it is inappropriate and I have had an older WILD WILD WILD child come in here saying it before. I had to crack down hard on it because it was spreading to all the kids. I heard it and changed it to "what the silly business". My DS once heard someone say wtf when we were out (in the grocery line) and he corrected them not even realizing they cursed. He just thought they got the expression wrong.

I would term for bad language. I would have sent that kid home and told mom language was term worthy. I dont do aggressive kids and I dont do potty mouths. I would be so mad if my kids picked up cuss words from a daycare kid.

My dd4 says what the heck all the time because of dh. Luckily, none of the dcks have picked it up, or at least it hasn't stuck.
Now "Oh my god" is a whooooole 'nother story. And that's thanks to the SAer. I do tell my dd to say "gosh" & she's pretty good at correcting herself.
"I don't care" is another phrase that pushes my buttons. It's just disrespectful, IMO.

I'm pretty picky compared to many parents, I guess. I have a 3 yo who kept telling me his dad told him it's ok to say shut up here because it's not a bad word. I told dad at pick up that I have certain phrases that I don't allow. I asked him if he could imagine sitting in a room with 10 children and letting them say ^^^ those words all day. He understood

My kids are not allowed to say all of the above plus a few more . I feel there really is no need to call someone anything other than their name unless it is a compliment ."Innocent" phrases that I absolutely do not allow + the alternative that is allowed:

I have a 4 year old DCB who used to say this on the daily by the hour. '
He knew it was wrong and liked the attention. So we had to come up with something else to say instead...
he came up with holy smoke aroni........
I don't like what the anything.
I would not pay into it, I would just say those words are not nice, lets find nicer words that we can use and move on
