I started a 13 month old this Monday. All of my other kids have been 2 up to age 8. It wasn't a huge adjustment for the older kids to come here. Maybe a minute or two of crying for the 2-year-olds after mom/dad left, but that was it.

My 13 month old is pretty upset (understandably). He will play for a few minutes, then remember where he is, then cry again. This goes on until he lays down for morning nap, about 2 hours after he arrives. After nap he is good for the rest of the day. I did try an earlier nap but it didn't work.

How long (on average) until a young one starts to relax at drop off?
