Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>DCK Now Coming on Wednesday
Boymom 09:25 AM 11-21-2016
Last year, dcd told me that dck wouldn't be here for a whole week during Thanksgiving or Christmas (I can't remember which one!) but dck ended up being here every day except for the days that I was closed. This family has actually done this 3 or 4 times now. They will tell me one thing but do another.

Dcd has told me 2 times that dcb won't be here this Wednesday. I'm closed on Thursday and Friday, so I was excited that I was going to have another day with my boys!

Well now dcd is saying that dck will be here Wednesday now.

Should I just suck it up and not say anything? Or should I say no to him since he's already told me twice that dck wasn't coming?

I'm tired of them telling me this and then changing their minds at the last second. I just don't get it!

Oh I'm sorry. When you told me twice that he wouldn't be here I made other plans. See you Monday. Have a great thanksgiving.

Nope, sorry. You scheduled off on Wednesday so now I am unable to accommodate your change in plans. See you Monday!

fwiw~ They continue to switch up plans to meet their needs because you are allowing them to. Put a stop to it and they'll stop.

Yup. If a family tells me they will be out, I plan on it. If plans change and I can/want to accommodate it I will but generally I hold them to it. I would definitely hold them to it if you don't have any other dck's Wednesday!

I do not allow "take backs"
Once I am told a child won't be here, I make other plans.
Do it now, and I'll bet you won't have to deal with it again.

I had this family! Sooo aggravating!

I agree with PPs. Once I started telling them no, they started taking my schedule more seriously.

Now I make sure all my families put time off in writing
(text or email), and once they put that in, that's it. I very rarely let people "change it back".

I feel if it is a scheduled day of your daycare being open then you are open..... if you want the day off why not just state the day as closed?

That said if you are open for just one family then it does make a difference and I would follow black cat's advice.

I'm with CG on this. I don't understand why they keep doing this to you, though? If it really annoys you, tell them no.

I don't think I've run into the problem of just having one kiddo. It would be annoying, but it's an open day for my business...

I'm open until 1:00 on Wednesday, so I don't mind watching him, but since he told me they weren't coming, I thought I wasn't going to have any daycare kids that day.

They are a very unorganized, "fly by the seat of their pants" kind of family. But I'm a planner, so I get annoyed when plans keep changing!

Any change in schedule I require you to put it in writing. I have 22 kids enrolled I won't remember who told me what at the door.

This way if anyone tries to tell me oh I never said that or I am changing my mind kind of thing I have written proof.

If anyOne says to me at the door we won't be here the week of Christmas. I wrote it down. I then email them. Thank you for letting me know your child will not be attending the week of Christmas. Happy holidays see you after Christmas.

I don't do take backed unless they do to with much notice. Pretty much case by case kind of thing.

Oh yes, you already have made plans! You made plans to have a nice day with your family. This job can be stressful--be good to yourself, girl!

I think the issue is more that this family makes a habit of saying one thing and then changing their mind at the last minute. That makes it difficult to plan.
I used to have a sign up sheet for these days where I might only wind up with 1 kid - and I required a three kid minimum. So everyone could see in black and white if I was going to be open or not.

Very smart. This is a great option.

I monitor from year to year. One year, I had almost no children the day before Thanksgiving. So, now I close the day before as well.
Maybe you can just close next year on the day before AND let the family, who already told you they weren't coming, know that you already made plans like the others said.

Many providers run on schedules and contracted times, not just open to close. Kind of like if you have a doc appt and you cancel it. If you decide you want to go last minute, you are subject to whether the doctor can fit you in or is even open at that point. Parents who cant make up their minds need to do a very simple thing...keep their mouths shut!

If you dont have any kids coming that day except for this one that told you twice he wasn't coming, then no way. Sorry daddy. You told me twice he wasn't coming, I don't have any other kids that day so i made plans with my family. No way in H*** I would open just for him.

If he was the only one I'd say I'd already made other plans but if other children will be there I'd let him come. But I'd be annoyed about it too.
