So my barely-3yo dcg was out sick for a week, and definitely backslid on the "We use words instead of flying into a screaming wordless rage the moment we want something or start to suspect we might get sad about something." Seriously, she goes from happy to SCREAMING CROUCHING IN AGONY at least once every fifteen minutes.

So there's that. Additionally, over the last month she's decided she's a nudist, and keeps showing up here with no underwear on.

She's at the tail end of a virus and was only able to stay for a partial day yesterday--she's just really out of it. Today, she only napped for .5 hrs (usually 2-2.5 hrs) and did her usual "wake up screaming and complaining" routine, but never broke out of it. Wouldn't go back to sleep. Went into the bathroom, stripped, and now has been in there for an entire hour, screaming as loudly as she can. Won't use words. Won't let me hug her. It's not an "I'm hurt" scream; it's her usual, "I can't emotionally handle this so I'm going to scream" scream. Adamantly won't put on undies.

It's way too late in the day to force her into clothes and put her into a crib to scream herself back to sleep.

What would you do? I'm inclined to just keep the door to the playroom partially shut so she doesn't disturb everybody else, and keep checking on her every few minutes. When she sees me, she screams "I don't want you! Go away!"

Honestly, I'd just pick her up and put her (and all of her nakedness ) into the crib.

Tell her when she is done screaming, she can use her words and you can assist her in whatever it is she wants/needs.

Screaming naked in the crib for a while beats screaming naked in the bathroom....kwim?

I am all for allowing kids to express themselves and feel whatever way they want but I can't have them standing in the bathroom that someone else may need to use. I also feel it's more appropriate to let her feel however in the crib than the bathroom. Atleast if she tires, she can fall asleep in the crib verses falling asleep in the bathroom.

I would do this, too. Great advice.

It is great advice. However, the situation changed when dkg realized that staying nude in the bathroom meant she couldn't wrench toys away from her brother. So now she's got on underwear and I've just removed two armloads of contentious toys from the playroom.

Still screaming, but now it's because she doesn't want shoes. So we're going outside and she can just get her socks soggy. Bye!

Jug'o wine after work?!?

That's the only suggestion I have now at this point....

I sincerely hope she is willing to put on more than undies before heading out.... unless it's warm where you are.

Actually, she was fully dressed. And now she's partially dressed, screaming in the crib. Outside is not happening today.

She's got the shirt partway over her head, screaming, "Hey! Get this offa me!"

"If you can't get it unbuttoned, keep it on. It's up to you."

"No! It's up to you! I'm going to my home and it's your fault!"

You're having a day aren't you?!

No suggestions, but I have a little bourbon left if you want to come over

I had one of those one day..I put her and her clothes in a pack n play in a bedroom and told her she could scream till her heart is content, but she was not going to disrupt our day. We were going to have fun. I told when she was done screaming to put her clothes on and when she was quiet I would let her return to our activities. She was shocked I meant business. It lasted about 15 minutes. She doesn't do the whole nakid thing anymore. But she can still belt out a scream ...sorry your day is nuts. Hope it is better tomorrow

I'd go with both of Blackcat's suggestions.

But I had to LOL at the title - it sounds like a day at my house. Our youngest (now 10 yrs) went through a loooooong period of time when he decided he was a nudist. In fact, the first time our older daughter's boyfriend came over our son was running through the house naked.

Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will run around like a manic squirrel, grabbing as many toys as possible before you carry me kicking and flailing away from the other kids. (I'm pretty sure that's a direct quote from the Bible.) Really, she's just war on society's artificial constructs of decency. Fighting The Man and his cotton gin. And his . . . nylon and polyester gins.

Any Harry Potter fans? "I'm not putting them on, I like a healthy breeze 'round my privates, thanks."
