I coudn't believe, when I looked at the info page about ratios in Maine, that the 2 1/2 yr - 3 1/2 yr ratio was 1:8 - and sure enough, it isn't.
It is actually 1:7 (still astounding in my opinion, but at least one better than 8.) When I called the state they told me to look for an accredited child care, since their accreditation calls for more restrictive ratios.

The other ratios they gave me are as follows:

6 Weeks - 1 Year: 1:4 (with a maximum of 12 children in one space)
1 Yr - 2 1/2: 1:5 with 2 teachers, otherwise 1:4
2 1/2 - 3: 1:7 (with a maximum of 21 children in one space)

I hope this helps

Your post is overstated. Your question of ratios for 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 years in Maine includes both 1:7 and 1:8 ratios. The state's ratios for children 27 months to 3 years is 1:7. For children 3 years to 5 years it is 8:1. We will update our information to make months versus years more understandable. Thank you for the heads-up
