A lady in my neighbourhood just advertised for childcare. She wants someone to come to her home from 7am - 3pm to take care of 3 kids (make them meals, do fun activities with them and do light housework) for $60 a day

Unbelievable! It isn't even minimum wage where I am. She got a bit of a scolding from someone saying it was illegal to pay so little but honestly what is wrong with people thinking others should do childcare for next to nothing!!

Are they her kids or are they daycare kids that are a part of her program? I would charge $150 for that for what I do (for drop-in care). LOL

That's nothing there's a lady on FB that would advertise for a babysitter / day care that would come pick up the kids, feed them, keep them for 12 to 13 hours, and return them home. She wanted care five to six days a week for a maximum of $70 a week. Plus DHS (her case worker) would be doing a background check on the applicant.
She was willing to provide food, you would just have to take her food stamps card to the store to by it. (Illegally using her card)
When I asked about child care assistance, she claims she didn't qualify (food stamps automatically quialfies you, which made me wonder if it was her card)
Couple months later she got a new job and the same offer was on the table expect she could drop them off so the pay was $50 a week.
Both times people line up for the job even though others commented on how illegal her offer was and how much trouble they could get in not her.

In my area, it would be minimum wage, so not too far off, but I doubt they are factoring in taxes and whatnot. I have seen ads for 2+ children for $60 a WEEK, so nothing shocks me anymore!

Yikes! Minimum wage here is $11 an hour. Childcare is soooo undervalued

I was asked to care for someone's twins full time in their home for $400/mo. Nope.

I saw another mom who wanted someone to come to her house for eight hours to feed, play with, and put her toddler to bed for $12/day. She specified that this person couldn't bring their own children along.

I've seen a couple people who post "iso daycare. Must be free or cheap." Then if anyone tries to say anything you get a bunch of people saying how "unfair" it is that daycare is so high and no one can afford it I do make a mental note of these people and their names, just in case they ever do contact me

In my area that would cost her $20 per hour easily.

What gets me is people in my area happily and willingly pay more for a dog sitter than they do for childcare.

Absolutely!!! doggy daycare here is roughly $40 a day...some being up to $60 a day. No one says a thing about that.

I am pretty sure people would crate their kids if it were legal

Until recently I thought "Doggy Daycare" was a joke. I really didn't know people paid money to keep dogs for the day. I'm in the wrong business

But yeah- it amazes me how little $ some people think good childcare is worth.
