Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Do you close as a paid holiday for Good Friday?

Hi everyone,

I'm making some changes to our 2015 contract and I ibis Paris Bastille Opéra 'm wondering how will parents feel about us been closed for Good Friday in April...

All my closed holidays are paid. So they will have to paid for this one as well.

I was going thru the calendar and realized that there is no paid holiday from January to May. And honestly I already feel like I need that rest day! after Thanksgiving break I'm realize how much these closed days are helpful for us (me and my helper) to feel better. Is so restful!!!

I am closed with pay. Been that way for years. It wasn't always that way but when I realized that most, if not all my dcf's were off I decided to make the change.

Once years ago I had a dcm and her mom show up here (on Good Friday) for our 3PM Easter egg hunt, which I didn't have a problem with but then they left without the kiddos! That just drove me up the wall and I've been closed that day ever since.

Paid holiday here.

Same reasoning as black Friday. I used to get 1 or 2 kids out of the group where parents had the day off (paid) and brought their children anyway (always longer hours than regular days, of course). Although I feel parents are entitled to use their time off anyway they want, I found myself resenting it, so I changed it.

If I am open, parents pay
If I am closed, parents do not pay.
The only exception is 10 federal holidays that I am closed.
Parents pay those days.
Thanksgiving was a paid closed day
Black Friday was a non-paid closed day

I'm in Canada and am closed for all stat and civic holidays with pay. I also take Dec 24- January 1 off with pay. The only holidays that I don't charge for is my two weeks summer vacation. The way I figure it is that most families I provide care for all have the same days off with pay, so why should I get burnt out and miss time with my family for them? I already have one mom (who i adore) admit that she never works on Fridays as she is supposed to and that she cleans, goes shopping and flicks her mouse (computer mouse to make it look like she's working lol). She has begun picking up later on Fridays (not past hours, just right before). So, I refuse to give up days off for families.

That's how I do it too. Since Friday really isn't a holiday, I don't charge for it. ( I dont' work Fridays now anyway, but back when I did). Kinda like Christmas Eve and Christmas. I figure Christmas Eve is a holiday too, so I do charge for that.

I don't take it off. It's never bothered me to work Good Friday. This is my first year doing daycare bit I've worked it in most of my other jobs.

My holidays are based around my own family preferences....If I waited for every client to be off the same day, I would NEVER take a day off.....after 10 years of hard knocks, I have finally learned to take care of myself and my own family.

Here in Canada we have 12 Statutory holidays throughout the year (Easter Monday only gov employees have it off but my contract states that I follow all gov stats). I take each one off without pay. My rule is if I am open....you pay. If I'm closed....don't pay. ANY sick time or vacation time I take off throughout the year I do not get paid for either.
