I have a new dcb starting next week,7am-430pm. Dcd works 8-5. Grandma will pick up. I am very excited since I just lost another dck and I raised my rates and implemented it with this new dcb. Dcd just got a promotion and now needs a 650am drop off(im thinking he needs to start at 730 now). I don't mind starting the ten minutes early but I know it can be a down hill slide after that since now I am opening early.
I need a professional but stern way to tell him he can drop off at 650 but not ever any earlier.

Accommodating early drop offs are always difficult if there are no clear rules and/or expectations in place.
Currently, I will allow your family to drop off at 6:50 a.m. Please understand that although your work day ends at 3:00, mine continues so it is vital that you are respectful of our agreed upon drop off time.
Should morning drop off begin creeping closer to 6:45 or earlier, I will need to reassess our agreement and decide if it is something I am willing to continue doing.

I simply don't open my door until my earliest drop off (my curtains are closed, my door is locked until exactly my opening time). Even if a parent is in my driveway 15 minutes early, my door is locked until I am ready for them to come in.

All of the above and I tell them use their cell ph for the correct time because that's what I use. That way everyone is on the same page.

same here. I have a 7am drop off and I told them from the beginning they could not be any earlier and if they were they needed to wait in the car. Well about a week or two into it the kid was ringing my doorbell at about 6:55am. I was LIVID!!! I answered the door (just as dcd was walking up to it) and was very stern to the child and told them they are not to ring my doorbell that early and that if they are here before 7am they are to wait in their car - NOT be loud on my porch knocking on my door, ringing doorbell, etc. Dad sheepishly looks at me and says "he didn't want to stay in the car". I said well he will from now on or you will be finding a new daycare for him. I have a dad who comes at 7:15 and one Friday he came at 7! I was awake but still in my jammies snuggling my little guy. Ugh! He texted later that he forgot to tell me he arrives early on Friday since he has to go to another office further away! And every week since I'm up and ready at 7 for him and every week he's here later and later! Today he didn't even show up! I texted his wife after 45 mins of no reply and she said he was up sick all night with the stomach bug she had last week so he's staying home.

I would charge though as well. I'm sure he gets overtime when he works overtime, kwim?

This is a great thread as I have had parents drop off early and I don't know what to. Technically my hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm. I have had parents arrive at 7:10 and I'm still in jammies, teeth unbrushed, and getting a few extra snuggles in with my toddler. Reading all these responses gives me a new confidence to start implementing some new rules to the parents about arrival time. I like the idea about doors not opening until exact opening time. I feel very taken advantage of at times, especially when parents come early so that they can run an errand before work and I'm like, ok well thanks for letting me know NOW as you're at my front door.

Maybe print out a flyer and send them home to everyone to remind them if your hours, 7:30-5:30. Early drop-offs will not be accepted without a prior request and acceptance of request.

When I have done this i put up a sign on my door.Yep!

I allowed early drop offs when I first opened and immediately it was taken advantage of. One parent didn't even show up until an hour and a half later. So after that I quit doing it. If asked, I remind parents of my hours and that it simply makes for a long day for my ds and myself as well as their children if they are here from open to close. I do have an early drop off fee that I can use if I decide to allow a scheduled early drop off. Unscheduled drop offs are simply not allowed...if they tried to ring my doorbell then they would be greeted by my angry pregnant self in fuzzy pajamas, a reminder of the drop off time, and then a closed door. Hasn't happened yet fortunately....I am a crabby bear in the morning. Every parent that has arrived before the door is unlocked has waited patiently in their car.
