I always encourage my kids to drink all their water at snack but I do not force it. I've heard that some providers are telling kids that they have to finish their water and must sit at the table until they do. Is this even legal? I know that we can't force them to eat their food but what about water? I always encourage them to drink their water and explain that it helps keep them from getting thirsty. It seems to me like forcing water is the same as forcing food.

Another thing I do is never tell a child he/she can't have a drink of water. If a child asks for water it means they are thirsty and need it.

I don’t believe in forcing a child to drink or eat anything.
My role is to provide and offer not force.

i agree! i have a special needs child who the therapist told me "needs to be made to try everything, no matter how big the fit he throws" Ummm. sorry not happening, I dont have 3 hrs for lunch time (and the other kids dont want to hear him sob).
I do make them take a few sips before they leave the table. Most of mine are asking for water all the time now (and love going to the bubler!)
