Parent 1 :

I know that your child is hungry in the morning when they come to daycare at 8:20. However, we eat at 8:30 and it presents an even BIGGER issue for us here at daycare because you have sent your 2 year old with a fruit and NUT granola bar when I have an 18 month old here who I have no idea if she has nut allergies seeing as how I am a NUT free daycare. Also, FYI yesterday when your daughter brought in cheerios at 8:25 she set off all DCKs who also wanted cheerios.

Parent 2: Please don't send your son in with peanut butter toast in the morning. When you walk in at 8:40 we are in the process of eating our breakfast that begins at 8:30. Please have your son finish his breakfast in the car before arrival. Secondly, it contains an allergen and I have infants in care for which I am responsible for and would rather NOT have to call 911 should the infant pick up your sons sandwich and begin eating it.

I HATE having to address issues when I shouldn't have too.

Put a sign on your front door - NO FOOD FROM OUTSIDE ALLOWED.

I've started throwing away the crackers/cookies/candy one of mine brings in. The child has figured it out, but not the parents. I didn't mind it until the child started saying things like these are MY crackers and you can't have any. My rule is you bring enough for everyone or don't bring in anything.

I've also started throwing away the Yo2Go and chocolate milk that's coming in.

This is what I do and I throw it away in front of the parents!

Put a trash can OUTSIDE the front door along with the following sign.

This is a NUT-FREE daycare! Please dispose of all food and snacks in the trash can on your left/right. Do NOT bring any outside food into the daycare.

Yep, I never understand why parents do this all the time. I think I hand food back once every two weeks or so. NO OUTSIDE FOOD ALLOWED!!

I take it from them and put it directly in the trash can. Parents know the rules and so do the kids. It doesn't take long to get the hint. Sometimes, I'll see one eating in the car in the morning outside.

That's a good idea. If they still come in with it, take it and place it in the trash can outside the door.

If they come with food it goes straight to the trash! I cant stand suckers and little bags of cereal just as a distraction! Seriously. Then they get dropped off at 9:30 hungry cause they didn't like the breakfast mommy made!

We do have nut allergies in my family and it's in my contract that we are nut free and parents have to sign it.

Also I do take any food brought in that isn't safe and bag it then return it to the parents at the end of the day saying " DCK had this food at drop off, I put it away to send home for later because this food isn't allowed here since it's not safe for our nut allergic friends". That way they have a concrete reminder put right in their hands.

That said tho I've only had to do that twice.

I don't even take it from them and throw it in the trash because my parents didn't learn from it. So I started having the kids hand it to the parents for them to dispose of. After a couple of times of them bringing them with toast with jelly or a bagel with peanut butter and having to take it back out the door they learned. Of course the first couple of times it was I don't have a napkin or a place to put this in my car and me telling them that the rule is no outside food then they looked puzzled in the face and stopped bringing food in. They still try it every now and then because little johnny wouldn't give it to them in the car and I tell them take it right back out with you.

I am the exact opposite - we are NOT a nut free house and my dck's do bring breakfast and lunch from home.... BUT I still do not allow them to come in eating anything, if they do it goes right in mom's hand as she's signing them in and she can take it right out the door with her.

Yes, I would also agree with many of the posts ahead of mine, simply put in a notice on the door that says outside food is not allowed. And if they do bring it with them then make them stand outside and finish it off outside the premises and only then enter.

One came in with chocolate milk and chocolate chip cookies. When she wouldn't eat her breakfast, the milk got dumped and the cookies hit the trash.

Second one came in and wouldn't touch her breakfast and she's my biggest eater. I'm positive she drank a Yo2Go on her way here, a 10 min ride.

There will be no AM snack today.

Yo2Gos have more sugar and calories in 8oz than 12 oz of Pepsi.

OMG I would be furious! I have a peanut, tree nut, and egg allergic DCB! It's so scary day in and day out making sure none of these things cross his path!
