I personally think the private members group is a little childish. What seriously needs to be discussed that can't be discussed among everybody. And yes I'm aware that my post will probably be a topic of discussion in there. I teach my daughter to try to not let people feel excluded at school and social events. Having a secret "group" is like being in high school again and that is one place I really don't want to revisit...

It's not intended to offend anyone. The purpose is to be able to share "real" info about ourselves without fear of parents or others seeing it. The criteria for joining is meant to prevent the same thing. That's all. It's just about privacy, not about excluding anyone.

The only difference in there vs. "out here" is that we use our real names and sometimes share details about our "real" lives.

Oh...and in high school, I was definately NOT at the cool kid's table, so I get where you're comming from! lol

I think you are mis-informed.

You are 100% correct, there is no reason for anyone to feel excluded or unwelcome.

The private section of the forum is mostly for personal talk NOT really at all daycare talk....a little but mostly when the issue is something that would divulge the provider's identity to the public...kwim?

Most daycare talk/discussion/topics can and are discussed openly among everyone.

There is no secret about the private area contrary to what some may believe.

The point of the private area is so that long standing members of the forum who have formed friendships and personal relationships while participating in regular forum discussion over the years have a place to talk freely as friends on a more personal level. It allows some privacy so that not every internet searcher or daycare provider looking for advice or help relating to work has access to personal photos and info that have NOTHING to do with child care.

Being part of a public internet forum has it's own issues so having a private area to talk about personal things with people I consider my friends and co-workers is a re-freshing and welcome change from always having to watch my P's and Q's and worry about what other members I don't know well will think or be privy to.

I think that allowing members the right to have a private section that is off limits to unregistered members and new members is a nice way to show those who have devoted time and interest into building this forum into what it is some appreciatation and respect for their privacy.

When a member reaches the required number of posts and length of membership, there are NO rules as to them HAVING to be part of this private area. That is soley up to the member. If you should choose not to be part of it, that is your right to do so.

If you should choose to become part of it, then like everyone else who already is, I will look forward to getting to know you on a much more personal and private level.

i am apart of a few public groups that then made private groups and i think its GREAT.. being able to discuss things on a more personal level with no filter is awesome..different ppl use the site for different things.. i know i am a talker and I like that one day i will be able to talk about topics without worrying if someone i know is reading it or saving it to frame me if i ever run for president LOL..

Fat girl from high school right here!

Yes, Heidi is right. There is NO bad mouthing anyone, I would NEVER be a part of that. I include more details of issues as I have no fear of being discovered online, as well as my real name, kids names that kind of thing.

So yeah, I had no idea this was already available and happening lol. Totally thought it was still in the works.

I am awesomely on top of things lately

I guess my only concern with pestering for a password now would be seeing that so many are chomping at the bit to get in there.

I believe I am a bit paranoid

So I am in the private members thread. I still am posting regularly on this one, and read it more frequently than the other one. The only thing that is really different is it is a bit more personal and we can all see what we look like. I find that when I need advice from a friend who doesn't live in my world, that thread is the one I turn to.

I don't want anyone to feel excluded! This is a wonderful resource for all of us!

I was a cool kid in high school, and now I am the chubby housewife. Life changes....

You can private message blackcat.

I like that we can post photos there and be more open. Anyone can see what is written on this forum so it is nice to be able to share things and know that it is not being shared with the entire www.

I am new here, and still getting the lay of the land.... I still haven't even figured out all the buttons in the posts... like what they all do and mean and stuff... but I am curious (hopefully I can ask!) what exactly is the private group? I mean, obviously its private, and I saw that its where you can be more personal... but how does one get in and stuff? (hope I'm not crossing any lines!)

The private group is open to those people who have been here at least 6 months, have at least 500 posts, are willing to share a photo, and ask the keymaster or the gatekeeper for entrance.

It's just another thread, one just needs the secret password to enter. One gets the password as described above. The intention is that the "general public" can't read what's shared there.

I hope you guys dont think I'm being cagey by not sharing any photos. I'd so like to, but for some reason my phone won't upload the pics, and we dont have home internet right now.... Maybe someday soon...

Maybe its not the quantity but the quality that counts. I have enjoyed your posting in the past and hope for more.

I think this also boost the forums growth- letting those that want to be part of the group start chatting it up a bit.

Anyhow the intent is good and I am feeling it out and being cautious but yet enjoying the new group. I think of it as a bonus. I find childcare to be so lonely at times. I need all of you just so that I can talk like an adult or at least let my fingers talk like an adult. It keeps me perky~

Oh come on..... We are all a variety of shapes, sizes and quirks that are uniquely our own!

Plus, adding photos really makes that connection from virtual to visual a bit more human.

Post a picture!

Fwiw~ This is just the beginning of a little bit of on-line bullying until you relent and post a photo......

but I will go with saying peer pressure instead. It sounds nicer!

I have also been here years and have a while to go as far as posts. I think high absolute post counts don't do much anyway. Some people post a lot of mee too and I agree and some don't. I think how long someone has been around is a better indicator.
