Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Check Out Our New (Free, Easy) Playhouse
nothingwithoutjoy 10:32 AM 09-30-2013
I'm super excited about the new playhouse we built this weekend. It was free, and took us only about 25 minutes to construct. And though it might not be the most gorgeous thing from afar, it's so cozy and sweet up close. Next spring, I plan to plant vines to cover it.

Not that I know of! :-) But I posted it on my facebook page; maybe you saw it from there? (I have no idea how facebook works, or even really what a newsfeed is; I'm just starting there, in case it helps with advertising.)

Genius! I love the idea of having vines grow up the sides in the spring. What an excellent idea. Need to fine me some pallets!

I was lucky...a building 2 doors down from me had lots of paving stones delivered for a new driveway. I asked for the pallets they came on, and the guys there even lent me a dolly to haul them home.

You can often find them behind big stores (make sure they're actually throwing them out), or on freecycle.org.

These are little-ish ones. I used 6: one (better one from somewhere else) for the floor, 3 for the walls, 2 for the roof.

That is great and would go with the all natural feel to the playground I want to create for next summer. Do you have to nail everything? I see some ropes? It only took you 25 minutes to put it together?? Hmmm, gonna look for pallets now. Thanks for sharing!

It was so easy. I was planning to nail it, but I started tying a few ropes to hold it together while I was thinking it through, and realized that they were a much easier way to attach it. It's actually super sturdy (I went inside and pushed my hands on one wall and feet on the other to make sure no one leaning on a wall could collapse it!) We lay a pallet on the ground, then set up two walls, tied them at top and bottom (to the floor at the bottom). Then the next wall. Then put two on top for a roof, and tried to figure out what to do about the sagging in the middle. I grabbed a branch and stuck it under the front, then we tied it all together. In the photo, it looks like it sags in the middle, but it doesn't really.

Go for it! It was so satisfying. Now I'm thinking decorating...

I wish it were a teeny bit bigger; I'd curl up in there with my own book!
