Hi everyone!

We are having our first week of 100+ temps; and our A/C is not keeping up the last couple of days. Yesterday the hottest it got in the house was 80, so it was no big deal. Today I have the thermostat set at 76 and the temp inside has been climbing all morning, now it is 83 in the house. We have fans going and such and it's definitely okay (not super comfortable though). I have someone coming tomorrow morning (the soonest appt I could get) to look at it and fix whatever is wrong. I think that by late afternoon today it might reach in the late 80's in here and it will be hot. Definitely better than the 100+ temp outside; but I'm thinking I may have to close. The other option I am thinking of is to take them outside, under my covered porch in the shade, and let them swim in the little pool we have. Let them have lots of otter pops and water to keep them hydrated and cool. I am full today and would rather not have to offer any partial refunds for closing if I can avoid it.

How hot would it have to get in your house to close? Any thoughts or ideas?

I'd go with option B--water play in the shade.

I would actually call liscensing on this. We can't have it colder then 68 in the house but I'm not sure on how hot we can have it. Even though sometimes I let it get a little cooler then 68 because it just gets to warm sometimes even in the winter.

I am legally unlicensed (in TX, it's called being Listed with the state). The only rule I have to follow is that I can't have more than 3 unrelated children in my care at one time.

I think you'd need to be the judge of how the children are acting/responding to regular activites in the added heat. Usually once they start to get overheated they become more irritable. It would also depend on the age of the children...smaller ones certainly need more care in the heat and could become pretty ill if they become too overheated.

I think going outside to play in the water would be your best bet, and if it does get too hot and you find that isn't working start making calls to parents. You can only do so much and you have made the best effort to get someone in asap to look at it...you can't do much more!

It happened to me three times and I do not close the daycare and I made them to come in to look at it at the same day. I keep cool in the house with a lot of fans on and it works good.

Don't wait for someone to come in tomorrow morning. Call them back to make someone come here by today to get it fixed if it is under warranty. AC people should know better.

I called several places and the earliest anyone could come was tomorrow morning. Just on our street alone 3-4 of the houses have had A/C issues the last few days! I imagine they are VERY busy.

And it's unfortunately not warranty work. Some of the parts are still under warranty b/c we replaced so many of them last summer; but we purchased the house as a foreclosure and all warranties are void.

I'm worried about y'all being outside, even with water play. It is just so hot. It's already 101, but feels like 103. From 1PM-4PM it is going to get up to 105.

Please call me and come over.
We would be in ratio having up to 5 additional children here today (and having you would be a blast). It'd be an afternoon party!

I know an AC guy that might be able to come earlier. He came over to give us a price quote at 7:00-8:00PM one evening. My husband has his phone number. When he gets back from visiting our lawer (concerning the adoption) I will get it from him to give to you. He is friends with my parents and just gave us a great deal on a new AC.

Thank you for the offer! You are such a kind friend! I want to hold out just a little while during nap and see how it goes. The air is now blowing hot so I turned it off. And my DH, who is home sick, went out there and saw the condenser is iced up. I think if we go out and turn the hose on it every half hour it should work. I will let you know!!

I think since you are not required by lic to follow a guideline you should just see how the kids are doing. Put wash rags in cold water and let the kids wear them around their necks. Thats what we do when we are outside at the kids baseball and its really hot. I think if they stay wet they will stay cool. Maybe put swimsuits on and put ice cubes in the pool or tub!

If you really are concerned, call the parents and ask them. See what their response is.

Then as soon as daycare is over go to the nearest shop or movie theater and sit there for hours to cool off!

I think we have found a way to keep the house at a steady 84. Since something is causing the condenser to freeze over, we turned off the unit, hosed it down, then turned it back on and it cooled the house down a couple degrees. I'll have to keep going out there to check it (thankfully DH is home today to help) and hose it down.

Try to rig some shade for your unit too. That may help.
