Hello! I am currently going through the process to be licensed (all my paperwork is turned in, with the exception of my proof of CPR/First Aid - which I take November 10th). My rep said she has assigned a file # to my paperwork but hasn't scheduled a time to come out and meet with me yet.

I'd like to open up come January but am not sure how long it takes to get licensed (I'm in IL). With that being said I'd like to start advertising but don't know if I can since I'm not officially licensed yet.

Does anyone know the policy for IL?

Don't know about policies in your state, but I started advertising before I was licensed - it can take a long time to get your first client, and it's worth it. Just be very up front and honest in your ads - "I am currently in the process of becoming licensed and anticipate being completing the process in January." Who knows, you may find someone who has a baby due then and won't need care until then anyway.

I didn't end up finding a good match when I advertised before getting licensed, but I did have some interest, and I was glad I started early because it felt like forever before I found my first family.

Good luck!

I advertised before I was licensed and opened. I filled spots a month prior to officially opening and it felt good.

I don't see anywhere in your state's guidelines that prohibit you from advertising before licensing: https://www.daycare.com/illinois/lic...are_homes.html
