We have a child in our home and need to go to a trial to terminate the biological parent's rights next week. The sub would only be here the last portion of the day.
I don't want my clients to be aware of WHERE I am going, I just want them to be aware that there will be a sub present at pick-up and would like them to know who they are. Any suggestions on how to word that in a letter to send home today? I am really stressing out about this.

I will be attending an appointment on ---day. My substitute, -----, will be watching the kids from x:00 to x:00. Please call or email me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Yup! That pretty much sums it up- short & to the point! Don't stress out about it- every child care provider either has to get a sub or ask parents to pick up early for appointments. Just because we are child care providers doesn't mean we don't have occasional appointments to attend during the week, too!

I'm worried the parents will attempt to call me during the actual time (which is what they tend to do any time something is different). I guess I could say I will be at an appointment and unavailable because I really can't be on the stand and answer my cell phone for a client.

Somehow I have been able to work it out in the past with my husband being the one who is here (even when I was miscarrying). But, this event requires both of us to be present.

One of the Moms is actually going to be one of the subs. She is also my friend.

Turn it off. THIS is more important than their call. It's not going to kill them to wait 30 min for a response. I would include house phone or subs phone on the note OOOORRRRRR. HERE'S WHAT I WOULD DO , leave your phone at home. Your sub has your dh number if anything goes wrong at home. YOU DESERVE to only think about YOUR FAMILY. (((())))

Unfortunately, this isn't just a hearing like the other 3 have been. We have been in court since March 1. This is an actual trial, so it will take much longer than 30 minutes. It hurts to think about it due to the amount of anxiety my child's first mother can cause me when allowed to fuss and fight. My child's biological father is a peach (although, a murdering peach) and causes me no anxiety whatsoever. I am ready for this all to be over with.

Love the idea of turning off the phone or leaving it at home. I will take that advice and run with it. Thank you for helping me process through this in advance.

I would tell them that if they need something they will have to call the sub providers number and send them away with the number the night before or the morning of. Make up a business card or something with her info. Maybe she even has that already ready. Then when you are gone, simply turn the phone off. Tell them you have an appointment that day and will be unavailable. I also always offer that if they want to use their back up that day they can choose to do so but it will still be a paid day for me. Sometimes people do that, their preference I guess.

I don't know you but please know, YOU take care of your FAMILY first. ;-) be it 30 min or 3 days. YOU COME FIRST. Got it. Repeat after me

You is kind.
You is smart.
You is important.

Wait,
That should be
I is kind, I is smart, I is important.

Take this time. They Either understand or they don't. You have them a sub. Concentrate on you and yours and get through the day.

Sending you strength, prayers, and a healthy dose of luck. :-)

Love that quote! Love that movie!

I agree with all the others, friend. Turn your phone off or leave it at home. Let your husband carry his phone on vibrate just in case it's an emergency call from the sub. In your letter to the parents, tell them that if they need anything while you are gone for the afternoon, they need to call your sub's phone.

Also, don't let your child's bio mom stress you out! She has NO LEG to stand on in this trial, and you know that! Just stay cool, calm, collected; and be there for your child. It WILL turn out in your favor.

Good Luck!

We had a TPR trial 2 months ago, and the judge did the best interest hearing immediately after since the bio parents pulled a no-show(again), so it took most of the morning. At our courthouse, there are NO PHONES allowed in the courtroom at all. NO PICTURE PHONES allowed in the courthouse building, they are taken by security at the entrance.

It is sooo funny to see all these lawyers talking on their prepaid crap phones in the courthouse, having to leave their smartphones in the parking garage. Its the little things that amuse me.

I closed for the day, just because I didn't want to deal with any potential issues at all. Or feel rushed afterwards...I just wanted to decompress and not worry about a sub or my dh handling daycare issues. My dh stayed home with the kids, and only I went since both of us did not have to be there.

just go and leave the phone in the car.....

On another note I may need to pick your brains. ds is getting ready to go through that with his 2 kids. he has been the custodial parent in their lives. Right now he is the foster parent. mom has signed and one bio dad has agreed but #2 bio dad refuses

It has been a long road but th kids are doing great
