I have a sibling set who have allergies. Not a little bit - a big bit. They are well aware I have a big dog and 2 cats, and I live on acreage in the woods. If you're allergic to something having to do with trees, you will be out of luck at my home. I told them and told them this before starting, but parents insisted it was okay.

The 3 year old does well here, but the school aged, summer one not so much. Today is the second day in a row that dcd has to pick her up because she can't breathe and is gasping for breath and threw up.

She was kept home on Monday. Does this sound like allergies? The gasping for breath with the throwing up makes me think asthma, but with her being home on Monday, maybe even bronchitis. Parents keep saying it is my pets, but they don't have any contact with dck's, nor are they allowed downstairs. Parents keep showing up, want me to dose with Benadryl every 4 hours.

Pet dander can be found on ANYTHING in your house if you have pets.

I would NOT be okay with the Benedryl every 4 hours. It would just make me really uncomfortable..

Does the Dr say to do that? Or are the parents just doing it?

Does the kid have a Dr plan outlining what to do for the allergies when they get bad?

Have you seen anything from the Dr stating that it is in fact allergies?

Something just sounds weird...and as a parent I couldn't imagine letting my kid be so miserable. Why pick a daycare that has pets if they know he is that sensitive...

I told dcd at pickup that older dcg needs to see a doctor and they need to give me something in writing. Dcm and dcd just keep saying this is normal and I'm thinking, "On what planet?"

I would ask for something in writing as well. Perhaps with an okay that their child is at your daycare, too, due to the heavily wooded and pet friendly (despite not interacting with pets) environment. They must have really liked you!

Yeah...making your provider put up with parental responsibilities has sadly become normal... '

but being that miserable (the poor child) is not.

This would make me very nervous. I've waited for an ambulance with a couple of people who were having an asthma attack (two different instances). I honestly thought they were going to die in front of me. It was incredibly scary and not something I ever want to see again. Prior to opening my day care, I worked with someone who had an asthma attack as she was getting ready for work one morning. She did pass away enroute to the hospital. Difficulty breathing can go from bad to worse in very little time.

If it were me, I would insist on an action plan form from the dr. I wouldn't accept her back into my care without one. Gasping for breath is not normal. She really needs to be evaluated and treated properly. Benedryl every 4 hours...? She be asleep all day, wouldn't she? No way would I medicate her like that without a dr's note.

I myself have allergy induced asthma… from pollen & trees… my worst though is cats; I would not accept the child back without a dr's paper and a plan of action, if they can't do that, explain that the child is too much of a liability to care for. I have had my worst year in about 7 years this past spring… here in TN, pollen was very high some days and I knew it

Thank goodness for not smoking, having no pets and my AC works

I think you and everyone else are right. I can not accept back unless I have much more information from her doctor and a serious plan of action.
