Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Do You Vacuum More Than Once Per Day?
crazydaycarelady 03:21 PM 08-28-2013
Dcm just came by "unannounced" so she could hang out and let her 9mo baby acclimate. This is her 3rd baby and her 3rd baby that has been in my care. I have had the family for 6 years.

Anyway, she was sitting on the floor picking up miniscule pieces of fuzz and what not off the floor saying how he was going to eat it. It is 4:00 in a dc - what does she expect? I do what I can but there are kids here, stuff gets on the floor.

Am I being unreasonable? I do have horrible dark green carpet that shows EVERYTHING.

I vacuum once a day--at the end of the day once my son is asleep. My son and my DCG are both terrified of the vacuum. It makes more sense to do it when they are not around.

Why not invite this mom over more often--if she wants to pick up all the lint from your floor, it might save you a vacuuming or two!

heck ya.... I have to vacuum after every meal, every project and then at the end of each day. I have full carpet throughout the daycare, so if I don't want food or craft supplies all over my carpet and house I have to vacuum all day long.

I vacuum between 4-5 times a day, depending on the day. I vacuum before anyone arrives, before nap time, before parents pick up and before my kids go to bed. I'm sick of vacuuming

Probably should clarify that I have wood floors in most of the daycare areas, and I'm sweeping constantly.

I vacuum once or twice a day and then I push around (or have a kid do it) that thingy that they use in restaurants ...I make sure the infant area is always clean but yes it's hard to not have a single fuzz where children play and any parent should know that

It all depends on how messy things get. I vacuum if we use Playdoh, for example, because I don't want it getting ground into my rugs or their shoes or socks. Also, if I serve cupcakes for someone's birthday, I have to vacuum because the kids get more cupcake on the floor than they do in their mouths. Otherwise, I use a brush and dustpan to pick up any food that drops during a meal and vacuum just once at the end of the day. I have a few kids who really get upset at the sound of the vac so I try not to use it while they're here if possible.

Nope - not me. Usually once at the end of the day at nearly closing time, but sometimes not even that often.

I have tile where we eat & do projects. That gets swept after every meal & snack, and sometimes art projects. The rest of the play areas have carpet. They get vacuumed at the end of each day. If we do a sensory a activity with rice or beans, that room might get vacuumed or have the sweeper run over it.

I run a sweeper cordless vac thing under where we eat after meals, but otherwise just once after dinner.
That mom is being ridiculous... and I'm sure she wouldn't want you anywhere near HER house doing that sort of thing!

Oh my.....once a day and it seems fine! I have laminate flooring in the area with the kids' table, easel, playdoh area, painting & cutting area, but carpet in the other areas. Nothing much gets from the messy area to the carpet as there is a long shelving unit between the areas.

I sweep at least once a day - at night after dinner. If things get bad under the kitchen table, I'll sweep after a meal. My family and play rooms only get vacuumed once a week because it doesn't get bad and I don't have any crawlers right now.

When I have crawlers, I vacuum every night and sweep twice a day.

Bought this last week. While we have a Kirby, this is handy for quick cleaning and its battery operated.

Meh, I vacuum when necessary.

Sometimes that is several times a day and sometimes it is only a couple times a week.

I wouldn't let DCM's attitude bother you. I'd have probably just said "The vacuum cleaner is in the closet if it bothers you. Feel free."

I vacuum once a day, whether it needs it or not. If there's a big mess I might do it mid-day.

I would have said, "You let your baby pick things out of the carpet and eat it!? I would never allow that....."

Grandma always said, "you have to east a bushel of dirt before you die". Don't let her bother you.

Seriously the child at nine months shall and is capable of learning not to put things in his mouth.

I vacuum at the end of the day on most days. I am forever sweeping though. My dining room and kitchen has wood flooring and that's where we eat and do crafts. Plus I have a dog who I swear, sheds 24/7 and I don't like seeing it on the wood floors!

ditto.

As a side note - we had dark green carpet in our old house ... it does show EVERYTHING!

I vacuum everyday at the end of the day or first thing in the morning. I did this before the daycare though. Our carpet is dark and shows everything. Two dogs, a cat, a husband, and three kids I needed too.

Nope. Once a day after the kids go home. Unless it gets really bad.

This is what the mom who was over here for an interview yesterday evening said about her 8 month old girl, as she was crawling around and getting hairs on her hands (this after I had JUST vacuumed RIGHT before they came in the door).

Oh and I vacuum 3-4 times a day. I do it more often when I have one afraid of it. After a few weeks they calm down.

I usually vacuum a few times a week unless necessary. I sweep daily, but that is where we eat and do messy projects. The carpeted area is just toys and doesn't need it often.
