This is kind of silly - and i know there isnt a "right answer", but I am just curious about everyones thoughts.

We have twins starting in April, this is our first time caring for multiples.

When I set up supply cubbies/diaper bins/ wipe boxes - do I give each child their own ? I assume DCM will be sending wipes & diapers for both to share - I can't imagine why they wouldn't be using the same. So it seems silly to give them each their own box/cubby/bin, and split the supplies between them.

But I know there is also a lot to be said about not treating twins as a unit.

Thoughts for my silly question...

I usually have siblings share.

Here, my cubbies would house their coat/shoes and anything else they brought in.. I would have a separate cubby for each child just because it wouldn't all fit in one.

With siblings they each have their own cubby here.

You can always share wipes, but I'd give them their own space for extra clothes, blankets and other belongings.

Yes ! Definitely would have their own cubbie for shoes/hats/clothes.

But we have diaper bins in the changing table, that hold diapers/cream/etc. and then each child has their own box of wipes too. Since they are twins they will be wearing the same size, for the most part. So it would seem odd to divide them up ?!? We also have bins that store supplies like binkies/bibs/meds. Those items will probably all be shared between the two, I think ?

I have twins here. They share a cubby, diapers, wipes, clothes.

Each child fills an individual space.

Each child here is given their own basket and cubby.

Regardless of relationship.

while they may wear the same size diapers and share those I am sure it was a mistake when you wrote they would share binkies

our state says each child must have their own wipes and diaper cream because you can contaminate the clean ones while using them I would give them each one but next to each other s they will have double supplies and surely you already have 2 cubbies available

See that's one of the reasons I feel like giving them their own. But with diapers and wipes, I guess I could just split them down the middle when they're sent ?!? And just pass the diaper cream back between the two diaper bins ?

EXTRA binkies, that we keep in the cubbies for back-up. They are always cleaned after we use them. But chances are IF they take binkies, they will take the same style and therefore DCM will probably send them to use interchangeably.

Their binkies usually stay in their beds or on clips attached to them. But we keep 1/2 spares.

Oh yes, we definitely have the two extra cubbies - space isn't the issue. It's more of an issue if DCM sends one tube of cream, where does it go ? I mean obviously we could just look in the other twin's diaper bin. But I like having everything organized and ready to go. We don't have licensing regs about having their own box of wipes/cream/etc. I don't think I want to ask DCM to bring two tubes of cream if she doesn't need to.

Have you thought about asking mom?

A lot of parents of multiples are adamant about treating each child as a unique individual whereas others dress them similar and give them similar names etc...

I would maybe ask mom/dad how they feel about it.

I would then either split the diapers and everything evenly (ask for a big package) or I would ask mom/dad to supply two sets of everything clearly labeled with each child's name.

If you have staff that aren't always familiar with the relationships of the kids, it would seem easier if each child just had their own supplies rather than having to look in two baskets for the tube of diaper cream...kwim?

When the kids get to school, they aren't going to share a back pack or a bix of crayons so supplying two of everything should be something this family is already used to doing or needs to get used to doing.

I had 1 yo twins when I worked in a center. I gave then both their own diaper cubby and split diapers and wipes down the middle. For the supplies they only brought one of (like diaper rash cream), I just picked a cubby and used it for both of them

I keep sibling sets together in the same cubby. It was easier for me to pack up all the things each day and place in one cubby. I currently have twins, temporarily, and they share. In the past, they did have separate ones.

Personally I would have them share a cubby but if your regs say they need separate diapering items then I would ask mom to provide two tubes of cream and explain regs state you need one for each child to prevent cross contamination, regardless if they're related and share at home. I'm sure she'd understand.

How exciting and fun! I love babies and twins especially! I have twins (16 now) but when they were babies it was especially fun. I took care of a set recently on a drop-in basis and they were super cute!!
