So I am terming my 3yo dcb with behavioral issues. Just wondering a few things,
1) Is there a better way to word this? I don't want to come across as not being able to handle behavioral issues but this one is different. On Thursday DCG2 was lying on the floor getting her socks on, he walked up and stomped on her stomach. Unprovoked, no warning just did it. SO I want them to knoe the reason.
Dear DCM,
Please accept this letter as notice of termination of our childcare contract.
Due to continued behavioral issues and progressively worsening aggressive behavior, I am no longer able to meet DCB's needs without hiring additional staff.
I am providing 2 weeks notice as per our contract. Last day of care will be 4/16/2014.
I wish you and your family the best.
Sincerely, Your daycare provider

2) do you tell them in person when handing them the letter, give it to them in an envelope and tell them to call with questions, Do you explain or just say there is no way I can continue to meet DCB's needs in this situation?

The ones I have term for behavior issue can see the writing on the wall before they get the term notice. They know the next step is term so I had them an envelope. One time I termed, handed her the letter & got a text as she read it in her car saying..., "I'm not paying you crap!" The judge told her otherwise, lol.

I would not admit to not being able to meet needs. I would word it more like:

This is notice of termination of the contract to provide child care services for Stompy McHitter. After trying several widely accepted behavioral interventions, unacceptable and violent behaviors have not improved and continue to escalate. For the safety of the rest of the group of children at MyHappyDaycare I must inform you that 4/16/2014 is the last day that I am willing to provide care. Until this date, Stompy will be kept by my side, and away from rest of the group to prevent the opportunity to harm others.

If you wish to help this family out, I would refer them to a family therapist who could help them work out these issues.

I termed once due to agressive behavior . I had a discussion with dcp on the first act of unprovoked agression and told them if it happened agin then I would not be able to continue care for their child . Things got better for while . Then there was a second incident . I told the parent that I was no longer able to care for their child due to the agression issues he was having .I did also word this in their term letter .

I never wrote that I was not capable of handling his behavior , just that I was terming for unprovoked agression towards others .

I would take out the please accept this letter part and just put the letter is to inform her of the termination due to ........( whatever reason you decide ) .

At this point he is in Speech and Occupational therapy for some gross motor delays, I do think that they as time goes on he will also be diagnosed with spd. I asked mom to get suggestions for what we can do but she told me that the therapist told her that once he is able to be outside more and burn off energy he won't be needing disciplined as much. (not what she said another dcm was also there waiting for her appointment and overheard her say she would need to push him to see what was going on).

The same afternoon when dcm came to pick up he attempted to punch dd2 in the face, she was appalled but only told him use gentle hands. This has been her approach over the last year, it is not working and he goes right back to doing it.

She later brought in a letter of suggestions from the therapist but in all reality he is just becoming more of a liability and also teaching others to act the way he does.

Today he walked up and spit on another child's snack, wish me luck for today and the next 2 weeks. according to their schedule they should only be here 6 out of the 10 days at most. Unless dcm brings them in when she is off which wouldn't surprise me. She always brings them to me when she cannot handle them.

Would you tell them what it is when you hand them the letter?

I would briefly explain what's going on when you hand them the letter... then again I'd term immediately because this child a huge liability for you. Never mind the hitting and kicking... but SPITTING on another child's food?!

I would add to the letter that any other incident will result in immediate termination before the two weeks. Good luck

Yes! Definitely do this. It is very likely you will need this.

Well I did it, she was understanding and agreed that a smaller group would probably be better. I feel bad but after today I know it is the right thing for my group. One of my DCM commented today (not knowing about the term) that as soon as he gets close to one of the kids they tense up and get defensive and almost immediately start to scream for him to not get close. He had walked up to a boy who was eating snack and started grabbing his food and throwing it on the floor. The next mom asked me if he had a diagnosis of autism because DCB goes home and tells mom he is mean everyday. I am hoping they will not bring them the majority of the next 2 weeks, They are scheduled for 6 days for sure but 4 of those dad might not have to work. I really believe that he has SPD and the noise and having 10 kids around is just too much for him.
