Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Advice? Daycare Parents Treating Is More and More Poorly
pootmcgoot 07:56 AM 06-25-2012
After I flat out told dcps about the babies crying they have treated me worse and worse. Today takes the cake though.

They are short to the point of being rude. It's very clear they aren't interested about hearing about our day good or bad. My daughter tries to touch or hug them when they come in and they sort of scoot her as if she's invading space (she's 18 months). This morning my husband said hello sir! To Dcd and he just grunted and nodded.

I am terminating this Friday for sure. Next week is a 3 day work week so it'll be an ideal time to term.

Our plan is to term, live off of credit cards til I'm certified and then find kids. I'm just cared because our savings is empty and the 450 from dcb really helps out. But this gig makes me miserable. Anyone been here? I'm scared to go into more debt but daycare is the only job around here. Am I doing the right thing? I feel like I'm sinking.

If you are planning on doing daycare as a long term thing, why are you taking a break because of one situation that did not work out? Term this child if you really cannot find a way to make it work, chalk it up to a learning experience and then immediately start interviewing for at least one additional child. See what you can change, make sure your rates and contract are in order and keep going. You cant let one experience stop you. Parents get upset when they hear that their child is upset.....there is no way to get around it. You will just have to learn as you go but you cant give up now! Living on credit cards sounds like a really bad idea!

We go negative 250 monthly. It sucks.

I need to be certified to do daycare when living on a military base. Ive been interviewing but no one is biting and getting certified is a gaurunteed way to fill spots. I've had 3 interviews and nothing has stuck.

I am terming today. He has cried all day. My daughter was woken up by the screaming and now she's crying. I just can't do this anymore.

well, I would keep advertising (where you can advertise for free) and then pursue your certification like crazy. is it possible to earn a little cash in any other way? I know you have a child so its hard but maybe even a paper route or something would help. I hope you get out of this situation fast!!!

Then don't do it anymore-

Daycare is not all bliss and roses- far from it. It is hard work and babies do cry- you have to figure them out and find out what works. You really have to have a ton of patience and it can be hard on our own families. If you are finding this is not right for you, get out now and find something else to make a living. If you still think it could be for you. Do it right and get licensed and certified, take classes and do everything you need to do, to be legal and know what you are doing. Make sure your doing it for the right reasons and not the wrong ones, because it is not a get rich, easy breezy job. We are very under paid, put a ton of time into our jobs and it is hard work with little breaks.

Best-

I just finished geting licensed through the air force. It took a month from start to finish. I would call the FCC (family child care) office or CDC on base to get the ball rolling. They literally walked my thru every step. It was a lot of work but I think it was way easier then it could have been if I had done it on my own. I have an internet friend that does care on an army post and she said her process was way more simple then what I was describing to her. I hope this helps make you feel a little better! Good luck

If there is one thing that I learned in this business, it is that it is worth it to term a child that makes you miserable. I have termed 2 boys in one year for similar reasons. One kid was a crier and the other was sick all the time. I have all the patience in the world, but when a dck affects my family or my sanity, they have to go no matter what. Can you put an ad on Craigslist for cheap while working on your certification? I also get a lot of hits on care.com.

Good luck. Let us know how the terming went.

Dcd texted me and said that this is his last week and he doesn't like that he cries here all the time and that there's something not right here.

I told him that he's had it rough with daycares and his wife said he cried at the center and perhaps he needs a nanny. I said I tried and his text was hurtful and that I will redbud them their deposit and last three days of care if needed.

I just want these people out if my life!!! I put up with the crying. I only sent him home once for sickness. I hold him for hours a day. He comes before my daughter. The stress level I have put up with for this family and their 1.85$ an hour has been immense. And now they can't even be cordial and polite to me. What's next? Neglect allegations because their son cries because I can't poop and wipe my ass while holding him?...and yes that started his crying up today. I had to use the bathroom, put him down and he didn't stop crying for a good hour.

Well hopefully since "something is not right there" then they won't bring him back.

That comment frustrates me! If I had received a text like that I would have asked them to come and pick up, and that I would have the remainder of this weeks pay, as well as their deposit back to them by tomorrow morning.

I know that isn't an option for you to do though, so all I can say is I really hope they just chose to take him somewhere else and eat the money loss for the rest of the week.

I sold my hutch so I have the money. At this point mon is being real friendly cuz she knows she can't find care immidiately. She apologized for his rude text and praised me. Said he's stressed. Whatever.

I said til the end of Friday is fine. They'll be met at the door with stone silence. After this I think daycare isn't for me. I've never been treated so ungraciously. I've gone out of my way, provided special and i just get crapped on.

3 more days !

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

(that's how you properly yell over the internets btw.)

Don't give up yet! Use this parent as a mold for everything you don't ever want, and move forward with it. It sucks really bad when parents are <insert something bad here>, but I promise you, the children you will encounter down the road will make up for this experience!

Don't let one family define what it means to be a daycare provider.

If you really think about it, that family did you a favor...you will now know to not do "special" unless you really want to and to not ever take a crying baby for more than the two week trial period.

There are good families and good kids out there. Don't give up!!
