Hello!
My name is Katie, and this is my first "official" post-- but I've ben stalking the boards and gathering insight and information to prepare for my long time dream of caring for kids in a home daycare., so to serve the community as well as my family to be home with my kids. So it is great to connect here! I look forward to the opportunity to share my experiences with ya'll as I move along and ask questions in order to continue to learn from experienced providers like all of you!
I have been a stay at home mom for my daughter since the day she was born-- and she will be two next month! Wow, time flies! But it has been the best job I could ask for! And I look forward to having an fuller home, filled with the vibrancy and joy that kids alway bring, when I open the doors to my home daycare this fall!
To share a bit about myself:
I hold a bachelors in child development, and have worked in a child care center as well as a Reggio-inspired preschool.
I'm interested myself I'm the Reggio approach, Waldorf, REI/Magda Gerber philosophy, and outdoor/nature and play-based programs--- and home to incorporate aspects of all of these approaches in the way I set up my home and engaging with children and their families!

I believe children do best when offered fresh, unprocessed-- and as often as possible: organic-- foods. In the past year or so, this has been a change at our home and I plan to continue and serve the children in my program real, healthy food choices.
Along the same lines, I also take pride in our home environment by/ cleaning with natural cleaners, keeping an organized peaceful atmosphere, and selecting natural wood toys and plays spaces for children.
I've had so much fun picking out a few new toys for the daycare: off-brand magna tiles, Melissa & Doug standard unit blocks, a few Dora books (my daughter is a fan!), small wood dollhouse, and Melissa & Doug Latches board.
In regards to the "third teacher" / environment.... cubbies and installing fencing in our backyard (why must it be so expensive?!!) are still priority on the list! As are a few painting projects around the house.
I still have licensing requirements to finish, but they are quick and easy tasks. I'm optimistic to open around the end of August! We'll see! Just hoping Ill have families in my small town who are interested in a program success as mine and that my tuition will fit their price point!
I can already think of a few questions off hand that I would love to ape for advice, but I'll save it for another post. Thanks for reading! Anyone else located in MI? Or interested in organic foods, or a naturalistic approach to child care?
Welcome .
