I have never had to deal with this before so I just wanted to ask opinions. I have a 10 month old, that can already walk She is the size of my 2 year old. I have noticed the last month or so that now she walks like shes drunk. She can never stay standing up. She gets up and then just falls to the side. If she is sitting or crawling she falls to the side.. And she crys none stop. I have also noticed the way she does her hand. Its the way she will hold her hands up and move them and her fingers. Its not in a playing way. Its hard to describe. I don't know if these are signs that something could be going on or if its just her. Also her parents feed her regular food, whole milk straight apple juice and will fill her bottles up with water and give it to her. I don't know if these things are going into play about the way she is acting? She wasn't like this a month ago. I of course don't do it here. Here she gets what a normal 10 month old should have. But at home I can't control what I do. I am at a loss of what to think. But I do think something is going on and I am to the point that I want to address it with the parents. Any thoughts?

The parents should not be giving whole milk until she is 1. As far as the walking/balance. Could be an ear infection. Could be a lot of things...parents need to take her to a Dr. to get it checked out.

I don't think the gross motor skills at this young of an age would be an indicator of autism or any other problem. That is an early age to be walking so "drunken" walking is still impressive lol. My 11 month old is always tipping over

As for the food and drink at home - idk I started my 10m old on the occasional sippy cup of whole milk (this was 2 years ago) as it was the only thing he would take from a cup and I was desperate to wean him...but this sounds different.

The crying could just be a phase. I would get keep a watchful eye as to the loss of eye contact, or social interactions (smiling, laughing). But I wouldn't worry too much at this point re the other things you mentioned.

I wouldn't be too concerned being that she is only 10 months. Her balance isn't going to be perfected yet, and maybe she is having more trouble gaining balance now because she is taller? In my experience, shorter children seem to walk earlier and better than the taller ones. As for the hands, my own daughter does something similar when she sees something exciting...so does my nephew...neither are autistic. Her diet won't impact her behavior. My own children started whole milk around 9 months because they would not take formula...my ped actually suggested this. None of them are autistic or have allergies either. They are healthy 6,8, &12 year olds.

Thank you. I have always been taught what to look for but never saw it in a child, and this one is so different from every child I have ever watched so I just wanted to ask

If I was going to consider anything, it would be low muscle tone, but even that doesn't fit exactly. It also might be sensory. Proprioceptive or vestibular issues can cause many of those things. I would mention it to the parents and be ready with info on the early childhood program in your area.

I would refer to early childhood intervention and let THEM decide if there is anything going on.
