I have THREE kiddos I change a minimum of 2 poopy diapers per day EACH.

Of course, all three are full time. ALL gross and if not caught immediately, leak out (I call for pick up).

1. Dck is 22 months, only here 9-3 and poops twice, minimum. Usually once after waking at home, and 1-2 more times from 3-7/bedtime. If she wakes at night, she will poop then, too. After dcm fed her blueberries and she immediately pooped them out (fed at 7am, out by 10) she called the pediatrician. We are doing a month long food /poop log, which is what the pediatric gastroenterologist requested after food allergy testing came back clear.

2. 2y5m, HUGE eater. Like double portion sizes and will eat food off the floor if it's not immediately picked up. Cries when 'all done', given water before meals, milk during. Never 'full'. ALWAYS mucousy looking. Parents/child are getting ready to potty train but we both feel the numerous poops are going to be a concern (she's ready otherwise). She is here 8-4 and poops twice, minimum. Once or twice in the evenings, too.

3. 2y 1m, Poops in her sleep still. Yellow, liquid stools at minimum 3x/day. Mom doesn't see the issue at all. She ALWAYS has a diaper rash despite barrier/preventatives and loading cream on her. We go through a large tub of butt paste WEEKLY. Once in the morning (always poop when waking) and once-twice in the evening, too.

Recess is HARD now assistant and I are facing a winter of either bringing everyone back in to change them (can't change outside, even with our portable changing station, due to weather) or missing poo's and having inside the snow pants blow outs. Neither sounds fun.

It's becoming term worthy if parents don't get on board with resolving it.

Thoughts? Am I crazy or is this an excessive amount of poop??? We have 18 kids enrolled, 12 daily and the rest poop MAYBE once a day or not at all.

Honestly, I think the second two are too old to be in diapers still. I was going to comment on this in another thread. I don't take children that are over two and not potty trained. Have you spoken to the parents about potty training?

What????

I'm sorry, but MOST just turned 2 year olds are NOT potty trained and are not ready to be potty trained.

I'd try with the 2.5 year old, but the child with "Yellow, liquid stools at minimum 3x/day" is probably not ready (also, ew).

I am no expert on poop but the last one sounds really abnormal for that age. Sounds like the parent of child #1 is working on a solution at least.

Can you do cloth diaper covers to at least keep blowouts under control?

I've had children as young as 18 month potty trained, but they had good parents.

I have had kids poop 3-4 times a day and multiple diaper rashes as well. No blowouts though! My own 5 yr old poops 3-4 times a day, eats like a horse and is only 37 pounds!!

Might be some sort of sensitivity, lactose comes to mind or possibly a parasite. I would ask them to get a Dr visit at minimum.

I’m sorry, so parents who don’t potty train by 2 aren’t “good parents” ? You need to look into how you respond to people. Also, it’s been proven that child led potty learning works best.

Thanks SillySongs, I felt that was an uncalled-for statement.

Agreed! I only potty train when developmentally ready and parents are also ready. If a child isn't ready at 2, are the parents "bad?" I wouldn't ever define potty training readiness as an indicator of "bad" or "good" parenting. If a child is ready and parents won't agree to try, then I consider it an opportunity to educate.

As to the number of bowel movements, if a child has 2 per day while here, that's normal for some of my daycare children. The 2.5 year old with liquid yellow stools - sounds like a medical problem. I agree that the child should be evaluated.

Hi

It is a pleasure to meet you. I've been searching for someone defining criteria for a good parent. I'm soooo happy my search is over!

If a child in care reaches their 2nd birthday and is not potty trained, do you term?

Child 1 - blueberries are tracer foods and pooping them out so quickly made me think it’s an absorption issue or possibly some intolerance of other foods. I would push to see a GI after you log the meals to see if there’s a pattern.

Child 2 - I always thought mucous poops meant something was wrong. I would worry that the child never feels full and then on top off it there’s mucous in the poop... this one would really worry me that there’s an underlying issue that needs to be looked at.

Child 3 - yellow poop can also be a sign of mucous poop and the fact that she poops in her sleep is really concerning. This one would make me think there’s a bowel obstruction, and the liquid poop is all That’s able to make it out. The fact that there’s a rash would make me push for them to get an X-ray because it would be something big that’s blocking her.

One thing to also keep in mind (for other kids, those 3 seem likes it’s a medical reason ) is that with our daycare meals, we tend to include a lot of fiber in the meals. When the kids are used to eating junk at home and nutritious meal with us, it can cause them to have funky poops every once in a while.

Moooooving back to topic . . .

I have a Nightmare Poops child, too, and the parents have never shown any interest in checking with the pediatrician for an elimination diet or some other investigation into the hell that is this child's digestion. This is actually the Nightmare Poops Lite kid; the previous one was sooooo much worse, and when the parents wanted to go full-time or leave, I took the pay cut and told them I didn't have space.

When you tug the diaper back to see if there's anything in there (too many sinus infections; I have no sense of smell) and you realize there's now poop under your fingernails, it's enough to make you want to jump into a pool of lye and just dissolve your entire body.

I'm at a transitional point where licensing is close on the horizon but I need to cut a couple of part-timers to make room for another couple of part-timers to go full-time. Dear parents: We daycare providers make these decisions based on our income and our well-being. Leaving your child's Feces of Doom uninvestigated and unsolved falls under MY "well-being" category.

The first two eat healthy at home. The last one eats junk, favorite food is “chicken fries”. 🙄

#1 was very close to a FTT dx. Pediatrician is now taking mom seriously due to slow growth. She wears 9/12m clothing. Weighs 21 pounds. Absolutely agree with an absorption issue.

#2’s parents aren’t worried at all. They think it’s normal for her. She does eat a TON of fruit because it’s ‘healthy’. She eats massive amounts of food here and is above the growth chart. Not overweight, yet, bordering it. She has started to cry when meals are over and is the only children unable to wait during meal serving to start eating. The mucous is what concerns me as well, otherwise I would just think parents were over feeding.

#3 worst diet ever. Lots of FF & junk. The poops do get worse mid week (from fiber) but the leaking makes her stink, which makes everything smelly. Mom just told me today she had no poops on waking yesterday. Fingers crossed!

All mine poop min of 2 times a day as well. Sometimes 3 poopy diapers within 6 hour span. Also will leak if not caught immediately. Whats weird is one has jet black poop. Literally black poop. I cant imagine what shes eating at home to cause it.
None of these kids are big eaters either. So what are they pooping out?! Lol

Are the parents concerned by the black stool? Is every single stool black? I wouldn't accept this child back into care until she had been seen and cleared by a doctor. The black stool makes me think there is some internal bleeding that isn't being taken care of.

Ive never though of that..hmm..i guess parents arent concerned. I was thinking some kind of food dye or too many dark berries. Its not every time. Maybe a couple per week.

Mucous poop could also be a sign of milk intolerance.
For #2 - I would push for an evaluation or doctor visit. Maybe it’s a sensory issue that she needs to overeat, and the overeating is causing the weird poops?
# 3 - maybe double diaper where you do a regular diaper, then one that’s a bigger size on top of it, but put it on bacjwatds sonyou get better coverage? Expensive but keeps them from leaking

Thought of this topic as I was changing the 6th poopy diaper of the day from 1 of my dcks, right before dcm walked in the door. I asked her 'what did dcb eat yesterday???' His normal amount is 2-3 a day; yep, he's a little poop monster.

AND child has asthma, which I have read can be caused by milk allergies. She consumes a LOT of dairy.

We changed 13 yesterday. My diaper genie was full! All but ONE were from these three kids.

18mo DCG has been having extremely loose stools the past 2 weeks. Today DCM told me DCG was diagnosed with "toddler diarrhea" yesterday, stating that she is growing in track and is otherwise healthy. She was told to limit her milk to see if it helps.

Now that I am reading that mucous poop can be a sign of dairy intolerance, that definitely makes sense. This DCG is a big supporter of the dairy industry, drinks 7-8 ounces of milk at a sitting. We will be limiting dairy here and switching her to water while here, seeing as she drinks 8oz of milk on her way to daycare each day.

I actually spent some time researching her symptoms yesterday, and saw this listed on a children's hospital website. I had never heard of it before either, and when DCM told me this morning what her doctor said I thought 8t was quite the coincidence. The DR did also tell DCM that DCG's mucousy stools were from the leftover snot from her cold that cleared up 2 weeks ago. So, not sure I 100% believe in the diagnosis.

My dcg, too!

Is that an ACTUAL diagnosis? I googled and couldn't come up with anything relating to a legitimate dx.

My dad was diagnosed with toddler diarrhea, but it’s from a birth defect and it took months and months and a specialist to diagnose. Basically her body wasn’t able to digest correctly so her poops were liquidy.
I seriously doubt a pediatrician would diagnose

If she’s drinking that much milk, what is probably happening is that she has hard stool That isn’t coming out and what IS coming out is diarrhea from around it. It can cause serious damage if that’s the case
