Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>I Thought You All Were Much Older!

This is a comment coming from another thread about how old everyone was when they started doing daycare.

I have to say that I was really surprised to find out how young so many of you are!! I've been coming to this board for a few months now, and I certainly recognize a lot of your names (screen names), and I never would have thought so many of you were my age or close to my age. You all are so experienced, and since I've looked up to the other providers as great sources of advice, I always imagined that the majority of the people on this board were 40+. You know, older and wiser... Any ways, it's very cool that the ages are across the board.

(BTW I'm 27, opening my daycare this fall)

I feel like a 10 year old (mentally) sometimes
look like I am a 30 year old
and seriously have to look at my DH (for the answer) when ever someone asks me how old I am.

Does it really matter?

I have met some really mature and wise young folks and some folks that are pretty well off in age that make me seriously wonder how they got so lucky to make it so far......

You aren't alone! I celebrated my 52nd birthday earlier this year! I started my business when I was 25...It is hard to believe it has been that long! I still feel like I'm a youngster though and attribute it to being with kids everyday!!!!

I started doing childcare in centers when I was 18, started my home daycare when I was 28, and I am 33 now.

I'm 24 and have only been doing it since September, but I love it so far. I'm a young single mom (she's 2.5 and I've been single primary since she was 3 mo) and it is the best decision I've made in being able to be with her as much as possible.

I don't know why anyone ever left their kid with me in the beginning. The only experience I had was I had my own 9mo!

Well I'm turning 37 on wednesday and yes I'll be working that day

I too was surprised at the number of young people doing daycare. I started with little to no experience almost 2 years ago. I did have two kids of my own.

My own had never been in a home daycare(SAHM).

I'm 32 and I feel like I'm in my late 20's. I like to pretend to act like a 6 year old.....however, I've had several people say that I act much older than I am .

Hey - 45 isn't that old! Actually I'm 44 this year because last year I messed up and thought I was 45, so I'm flip-flopping years.

Haha, I like to use the word whippersnappers too.

I really am seeing some trends changing from when I had my own three and as the years have gone by. When I had my first son, you were looked down upon if you used 'paper' diapers. Then it became popular and now mom's wanna go back to cloth??? Yuck. I do know that they make better kinds now though. We had the pins and rubber pants. I just went with the 'bad mom' label rather than use cloth.

Well you do have more experience except before I started I was a SAHM to my own three so it is a close call on that.

It looks like I'm still in the lead. Not sure if thats a good thing or not Of course old beats the alternative.

I'm - let's see - 49? Yep, 1964 from 2013 is 49 . Some days I feel younger, some days much older .

I've been doing this at home for 20 years, with a couple of years in a center when I was really young.

Hold on to your hat! I will be 65 later this summer and have been caring for children off and on since I was 20(I was a teller supervisior in a bank for 11 yrs.) and became license 23 yrs ago when required. My 'parents' tell me I'm too young to retire. They are correct as usual. Age brings experience and understanding of children, ideas for activities, and a need to keep fit!
