Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>And the kicker is she's a Daycare PROVIDER

On a Mom's group on Facebook someone posted that they were looking for a babysitter to come to their house today from 2.30pm-10pm to watch her 2 kids so she could go to a bachelorette party. She stated she could only pay $20 and at it must be at her house.

Myself and other posters replied that at such short notice for that long for 2 kids none of our sitters would do it for $20 and perhaps she should rethink the price or only go to part of the party.

She replied that she is a DCP who charges $20-25 a day so there's no way she's going to pay someone else more than $20.

A poster replied that they were upset with her thinking because she charges that a day for 5-6 kids (her website has a link on this group so all her info for her daycare is there including pictures which seem to imply she is over capacity ie. 6+ but a story for another day) so she is making $120+ a day. She added the statement that you get what you paid for. I agreed with this poster, then wished I had just kept my mouth shut and out of the drama. So went to delete my comment but she had already blocked me & removed any negative comments from all posters. Whatever. So right then I left the group as it is full of drama and I don't want to get sucked in.

I was so surprised and annoyed at her way of thinking because she undercharges compared to other providers in this area & doesn't want to offer a fair price for someone else to watch her own children. She makes childcare seem like not big deal and not worth paying for. If a DCP promotes this kind of thought why would a parent feel any differently.

As a DCP I thought she of all people would know better...

There is no babysitter I can think of that would provide care for those hours for two kids for $20 bucks. I wouldn't have 30+ years ago, when I was just "babysitting" for kids around the neighborhood. I would have asked $30 and they need to provide supper for the kids and me precooked or ordered (like pizza) that has minimal clean up for me to do.

I would be willing to bet she will be spending more than $20 on colorful fruity cocktails at the bachelorette party.............

That's $1.33 per hour per child. No one will take her up on that.

thats pretty disheartening seeing as she is a mom looking for care and then stated "you get what you pay for". She is wanting to offer slave wages so I guess she is totally okay with bottom of the barrel care for her kids. I would imagine that is what she offers to her clients also. I dont understand why she wouldnt offer at least $40 since she makes $20 or so per day per child. And for weekend care, I double any week day charge. I would give $80 for a full saturday afternoon/evening for two kids.

I charge $50 for an overnight drop in for two kids. For an afternoon or weekend drop in I get $60 for both kids, parent provides all food and snacks.

I've only left my kids with someone ONE time overnight in ten years and that was last night. Another dcp that I greatly trust came over and provided FREE care for my two kids at my house from 915 pm until 900am this morning. I actually tried to give them money this morning after stopping at the ATM and they REFUSED my money. I stood there quite speechless for a few minutes as I was caught off guard.

I knew they needed the money and I had already told them I'd offer them $40 in cash in addition to an adjustment in their bill on the part time drop in care of their daughter. I offered them cash as well because I know money is very tight for them and they drove 40 minutes in a gas guzzler just to help me help another family.

Then, after I got here this morning, the husband loaded up my garbage and took it to the road for me.

They said they owed me more than they could ever repay and they'd help any time they could depending in when husband is off work because they only have one vehicle.

People like them makes everything I do worth it and they make my sacrifices a lot more worth it.

My 14 year old would probably make $80-$100 for that job with one of her clients.

I had a sitter for my two younger ones a couple of weekends ago from 7 to 12:30. She made $65. I doubt very seriously that she'll find anyone to agree to that.
