Daycare and Taxes>Parents Claiming Taxes

Sorry for the other different post but I am trying to figure out this whole tax thing since I am new to it.

I have a parent telling me that I need to give her a form for her to claim the daycare services I provided...What form is she talking about and where do I get it?

It is a federal W-10 and she is supposed to provide it. You can just print it off the web, though. Free and easy.

The parent is talking about IRS Form W-10 which you (or she) can get at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw10.pdf

Now - the parent is actually required to give you this form to fill out. You are not responsible for giving this form to the parent. Most providers will either give this form to the parent or give the parent an end-of-year receipt and include their taxpayer identification number on the receipt. You can use your Social Security number, or preferably get an EIN number from the IRS (www.irs.gov) Search for "Online EIN". It's free and protects you against identity theft.

I went to my son's old daycare and asked for the form that was needed to prepare my taxes. The director is charging $10? Is that even legal??

They will probably say it is a processing fee from their accounting firm. May not be illegal but does seem unethical.

I agree with Michael.

Wow thats stupid, I just print all my parents a W-10 off MMK(since I keep track of all payments in the program, and I print them a statement of all their payments throught the year, just an easy click of the buttons, and I always do this the first day of the year....Can't imagine charging for this

Just out of curiosity was it from a prior year or had they already given it to you? I lost one once and they charged me to get a second one.

yes I know a few people who run licensed dayhomes/daycares in my area. First receipt free, but if she has to make a new one cause they lost it, then she charges $20 because she has to go back and redo.
