Emsdayhome 02:25 PM 09-05-2013
What does your schedule look like? I'm trying to come up with an ideal one, to make sure we area always eating at the same time every day. I find that sometimes snacks and stuff vary, but I want to keep them scheduled for myself and for the kiddos. Also, how do you make sure that YOU eat during your daycare day? I am so busy , I forget about myself :-s

Normal schedule:

Kids arrive 7-7:45

Free play

Breakfast 8:45

Nap for littles 9:15-10:00; older kids teacher-led activity

Diapers and go outside

Neighborhood walk 1/2 hour to 45 minutes

11:30 come in, wash up, sit at table with puzzles or coloring or something

11:45 lunch and story time

12:30-3:30 nap for everyone

Snack

Free play indoors or out until they leave at 4:15-5:15

Current schedule:
Nobody gives their kids a "real" breakfast yet, so my 8 mo's are crankin' by 8 for breakfast. I've asked them to give them more than a bottle before daycare, but so far, it's not happening.

7:45/8:00 Breakfast

8:30-10:00 am nap (everyone...my oldest is 22 months but he doesn't sleep decent at home so he's a major crank otherwise. Last night's sleep consisted of 10pm to 5:30am).

Snack of crackers and milk at 10:00 so they can manage to wait for lunch

outside time, neighborhood walk 10:30-11:30

rest the same

I only have infants and toddlers other than the school agers so my day is mostly child-led. We have a routine we follow but the times are really there for reference more than anything. Right now we are outside more than the schedule notes because the weather is great and won't be like this for much longer.

6:30 first arrival-bottle then down for a nap
7:30 open for the day arrivals are usually 7:45-8:15
7:45-8:15 breakfast is served
8:20 school agers leave, clean up breakfast, change diapers, bottle for other infant
8:30ish outside time (start with a walk then play in the backyard)
9:00ish storytime (morning meeting type activity but very informal)
then freeplay inside and individual learning activities, usually we will also do sensory or art during this freeplay time
10:30 music time, feed infants
11ish lunch
11:30ish change diapers, put out cots
storytime then quiet music and lights off
2:30ish wake up, limited free play (I pull out one type of toy to all play with together while we wait for snack and the big kids to get back from school)
3ish snack
then outside time for at least 30 minutes
then inside free play (if it's not nice enough to stay outside)

As for me getting to eat, I eat with the kids while they eat at the table. I just nibble because I'm too busy with such young children. I have them napping pretty much at the same time so I make sure my lunch is ready in the fridge and grab it while cleaning up lunch during naptime. Breakfast I eat bofore they get here.

ok so my scheduling is pretty much the same as everyone, but I was thinking I should be adding an extra snack time in there, but wasn't sure! I have all under 2's , my daughter is the oldest and just turned 2 yesterday. So we're elbow deep in bottles and diapers and that kinda thing.

Next week when I have ALL my dck's here (I'm only back full force into daycare as of this week due to summer break and me having 4 of my own home for the summer)so I'll be sure to have my meal portions ready in the fridge, that's a great idea. Today I tried to sneak out of the daycare room during nap time to grab a bite down in the kitchen but one of my dck's woke up when he sensed me leave lol. LESSON LEARNED.

This is the only schedule I use. It's laminated and hanging up for the kids to see. They love to look at it to see what is coming up next
I purposefully don't have any times listed-that way I can be flexible if I need to be

do you have to wake them up if they are still sleeping??

shoot, my group would be a hot mess without long naps. All three of my current kids do not have good sleep habits at home. One stays up WAY to late, the other wakes WAY to early, the third has naps that are too short at home. They come here exhausted. On Friday, the 3 year old slept for over four hours. She regularly stays up till like midnight at home. I dont know that I could even wake her after one hour, she just would not wake up at all.

6:30 unlock door and get breakfast ready
6:35 DCB1 (26 mo) arrive
6:40 DCB2 (24 mo) arrive
6:45 DCK and my own three boys (6, 6, and 9 years) eat breakfast together (I have my coffee and breakfast before opening - in total silence )
7:20 DCG1 (12 mo) arrive and has breakfast
7:25 my boys are sent off to school on their bikes
7:30 DCG2 (22 mo) arrive
7:30-8:30 playtime, we listen to this week's music theme, read stories etc.
8:15 DCG3 (24 mo) arrive
8:30 am snack (fruit, bread and milk)
9:00 diapers
9-10:30 outside play and set up prams for those sleeping outside
10:45 prepare lunch
11 lunch, I always eat with the kids and eat the same menu that they are having.
11:30-12 free play while I clear away lunch and clean the kitchen area
12 diapers and set up sleeping arrangemens for those who sleep inside
12:15 those who sleep inside are tucked in and getting ready to sleep
12:20 those who sleep outside are in their prams
14:30 first ones are starting to wake up, and my boys come home from after-school program
15 pm snack and homework time for my boys
15-16:15 free play till pick up
16:15 closing time and put away prams

When I look at that list, then no wonder I am tired at the end of the day!

I have a key to the center I work in and open often. This is my schedule on the days I open:

6:10 arrive, turn on lights, have rooms ready, check messages etc.
6:15 prepare breakfast and deliver it to each room
6:30 my second staff person and the first kid arrives
7:00 first infant arrives and I separate
7:30 second infant teacher arrives and takes the young infants to her room (usually just 1)
8:00 breakfast and my assistant arrives
8:30 breakfast clean-up/dishes
8:45 diapers/sunscreen
9:15 outside time
9:45 inside, naps if needed
After we are situated, I begin activities for the day: sensory, art, and others
10:00-10:30 there are often bottles during this time
10:45 start diapers again
11:00 books, fingerplays, songs
11:30 lunch
12:00 clean-up and dishes
12:30ish start diapers again
12:45/1:00 nap
3:00 center nap over, but most of my kids don't sleep that long. When each wakes up I do diapers and whatever else they need. Snack arrives at 3
3:30 snack clean-up and dishes
Remainder of the day is free-choice until pick-up, usually with a lot of music activities. I wish we could go outside, but they only schedule for the older rooms to have time.

Ok, I have to question that one. I wonder if someone interpreted that wrong and gave you wrong information. It wouldn't be the first time.

I cannot imagine having to LIMIT naps to 1 hour!

1 hour naps?! Really? What age are you talking? All my kids have always napped at least 1 hour and 45 mins. I have one girl who is almost 3 who will sleep 3 hours if you let her. I've also had 4s who take advantage of the full 2 hours. I could NOT imagine how our day would go if everyone only got 1 hour of sleep.
