Any Illinois providers mind if I pick your brains? (Or anyone who knows the answers...)
I have a few questions - like can you run a home day care out of a building that you don't live in? Am I right in reading that that would then have to be a center?
And a few other Qs
Please & Thank you.
I'm running into issues with our city zoning laws...

Contact the licensing agency. They will know for sure...

In chicago if it's a home daycare, you have to live in the home.
I'm not sure about centers guidelines

If you are running a licensed family child care you must be living in the home. Most areas of IL any home based business you must be living in the home. You can't have a house and just run the business from there, you must be living there.
The best way to get answers is to call your DCFS licensing rep. You can tell them your exact situation and they can direct you in the right way.
Good luck!

You can also just be a renter, and run a daycare as long as your landlord is cool with it

but yes you must live there. Someone nearby tried running a home daycare out of her guest house and got in big trouble with DCFS.
I've been running a center for 3 years now in Homewood.
Just found this forum but great info! Thanks
