Hi All, new to this site, and to the world of daycare. We are in the early steps of the process, and noticed that a credit check was part of the Licensing process for California.
My question is, what is the severity of this. We have low credit scores (560-600 ish), a fair amount of debt, and a couple items that will soon be past due on our CR. I am trying to understand how adversely this will affect us getting licensed. We have no criminal issues etc, just some over extension of ourselves financially, part of the reason the decision to open a home daycare was made. Thank you for reading.

Credit check must be new. I didn't have one.

Yeah, never had a credit check and I just got my license last year.

I fail to see how a credit check is relevant to childcare at all. Are you sure they don't mean a background check?

Are you opening a center or a family child care?
To my knowledge, for an FCC you only need to sign a statement of feasibilty, meaning you will have the financial resources to sustain a safe and healthy environment. For a center it would be a little more stringent.

I agree with this!

I am in Ca, got my license less than a year ago, and did NOT have to get a credit check. Background/child abuse index check, yes. CREDIT check, no.

Same thing as the others- I've never heard of them running a credit check as part of licensing.

All,
thank you for the comments. I have re-evaluated the sites we were reading, and the credit check requirement was for a facility license. Thank you again.
