Daycare Center and Family Home Forum>Miss Working With Adults?!
Christina72684 12:39 PM 02-19-2014
Before I opened my daycare almost 3 years ago, I worked at a motorcycle dealership selling parts and accessories. I loved my co-workers and my regular customers (couldn't stand the owner though!). Now I'm lucky if I talk to 1-2 adults per day (usually my mom and husband), not counting parents and those conversations are very short and pointless. I miss adult conversations. I miss not having to say "put the toys away" or "don't hit your friends" or "clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere". I'm just having one of those blah days where I miss the "normal" world.....

I understand and I am NOT a social butterfly in real life. I like the computer because I can turn it on and turn it off when I feel done.

I have one or two clients I have good conversations with since we parent the same. The others...

Yes, I talk to my mom several times a day, my DH and a couple provider friends. I try to make up for it on the weekends and get together with friends! Summer is also much better for me because I can chit chat with my neighbor when I'm outside!

I missed it so and that is exactly why I had to close my family child care! I still like to check in here. I am on my I-pad and don't know my password. I am subbing in my school district now.

Hang in there. I think this can be hard for lots of providers.

I've only had a daycare for five years, but I haven't missed adults yet! I was a CNA for a few years after college, and the cattiness and meanness of coworkers made me want to put them all in time out!!

At least when kids are naughty, it's an honest naughtiness that can be corrected. Some adults are just way beyond correction!

Also, I was very close to all my DCM's and chatted quite a bit with them. I can't edit my other post because it's not posted yet.

I have 3 assistants so they help to keep me sane. I don't need 3, but for the price of sanity, well there is no amount that i wouldn't pay for it.....lol

I was at a doctors party with my husband and said excuse me, where is your potty................ugh that was so embarrassing....

I missed adult interaction, too, until I went on an interview at a dc center today. Within minutes of sitting in the germ infested hallway, listening to kids screaming and crying, listening to some of the teachers "baby talk", I wanted to vomit, and run back home. Oh, I also drove in during the height of a snow storm we randomly got today. I miss being around adults, but I see the light now- we are better off being home daycare providers any day!

Yeah, it is definitely a trade off. I remember working in the adult world at a 'regular job' and having to put up with adults that bugged me.

At least at home "I" can choose which adults to talk to and which ones not to. I call my provider friend too and we talk.

it'd be nice to meet another provider close to here and at least get together every once in a while

It helps that the last job I had before dc, my coworkers were all awful. I mean not to me, but in general. Drugs, lack of professionalism, etc. don't miss that at all!

I do have an assistant that comes in three mornings a week and she is awesome!

The coworkers I had at my last job were WAY worse than any child I have had at my house. I miss having a lunch break and bathroom breaks alone, but I dont miss other adults very much.

I am very much there. Probably why I enjoy time away as much as anyone. Even a trip to the store without the kids! Oy
