What your criteria for transition from a sippy cup to a regular cup?

I am thinking if they can show me that they can pick up, drink from and set down the sippy cup without tipping it (pretend that its a regular one) I will try them with a regular cup. (maybe 1/3 full so when it spills..) Kids that still drop the sippy cup, shake it, tip upside down, set it down sideways etc. can keep using it.

They have to pass the two week water test. If they can handle a regular cup of water for two weeks with no spills, I can start trusting them with milk.

All children ages 2 and up (which is all I take) use a regular cup.

HOWEVER, Blandino had sippy cups on her table recently and I became really tempted so I went out and bought the take and toss kind to use as their water "bottles" that can sit in the middle of the tables. It worked out amazingly well since I don't have 22 open cups out.

I also have the take and toss ones with straws. It depends on the kid. I had a 4 year old who would consistently spill everyday, he went back to a covered cup.

At meals, only open cups from around 12 months old. For drinking walking around, depends on the kid. When they can stand, drink, and give me back the cup they get an open one. When they want to wander and walk with it still, sippy. I only give water.

I don't use sippy cups.

I transition from bottle to regular cup.

Works easiest for me.

NO ONE eats or drinks anything unless seated at the table.
This includes outside too.

This is what I would like to do..

My problem is the littlest ones seem intent on just dumping... Or one will drop er food in open cup.. Do you just sit on tip of them with drinking out I cups until they get it?

I move their cup so they can't get to it until it's time to drink from it. So, yeah, basically I have to sit right there with them. It doesn't take long for them to figure it out. My biggest problem is my 23 mo dcg forgets to move her cup up... so I'm constantly -ing and saying "dcg, please move up your cup"
