Woohoo just got done with my inspection. I have not had one in 6 years. Hardly can believe that! I didn't have any violations!!!! Took her 1 hr 40 minutes UGH!
Heidi 02:22 PM 02-20-2013
wow! Our inspections have been known to last 3 hours...mine haven't thankfully. I think it's because she always finds a few minor things, and then she can move on. lol

Good for you!
Six years?!?! Holy cow! Are you suppose to have them more often?

6 years - my goodness, I'd love that
.
I had an inspection once that lasted
all day. I thought I was going to have to invite him to dinner for awhile there
.

Wahooo !
That must be wonderful, we have 3 annual unannounced visits. So once every 6 years sounds like heaven to me.
Holy canoly! 6 years??? Wow! WTG!

Oh it is great only having it every 6 years. I think the last time though was about 3 years. As much as I don't want them here even once a year, it is pretty scary that they don't come out more often. Michigan is such a broke state though, that the funds are just not there. I take comfort knowing though that I'm doing the right thing by my daycare babies. Scares me though on what some are doing/not doing though. I believe that the higher risk daycares are probably getting checked more often. I think they look alot on your history and see if you've been written up before.

That's awesome that you passed your inspection with no violations!
Wow, 6 years is a long time. I think here in NY (for centers anyway) it is one scheduled and one surprise inspection a year. And we re-license every other year.
lovemykidstoo 04:35 AM 02-21-2013
I think here in Michigan it's alot different for centers, not sure why.
That poses a question, if you're a family daycare licensed for 6, how often are you inspected and are they scheduled or surprise visits?
momofsix 05:38 AM 02-21-2013
I'm in MI and had a surprise inspection...something they told me they never do! I was up for renewal and I was part of the random 10% they inspect every year so they came and surprised me. I did not have any complaints against me (ever) and passed with no violations.
My SIL has been one of the random 10% inspections 3 years in a row! (Even though these are random inspections, they still called her and scheduled it.)
My sister has never been inspected past her very first inspection to get her license. Way more than 6 years.
Very sporadic inspections in MI.
Did you ask her about the kids having to be able to do the fire drills by themselves?

When I lived in my old house, I was one of the 10% random and it was supposed to be a surprise within the next 3 months. WEll it was summer, so I called and said I don't know when you're coming, but these are my vacations so I won't be there on these days. It pretty much narrowed down when she was coming.
I asked her about how to do the fire drills in the winter and she said that as long as they can get to the exit and hopefully be able to open the door that was good enough. She said that it's not necessary that they go out, but make sure that they know that they're only stopping now because it's practice and it's too cold out. But if there was a real fire of course to just go out. The way I do it is I have them get ready to go out side, then I send them in the playroom saying I have to get ready adn then I do the drill so they are dressed, but yet surprised. She said that was good too. About doing it alone, she wanted to see how many could actually open the egress window and the door lock.

as an avid player of "The Sims" the title of this thread reads very funny.
Congrats on the good inspection OP!

WOW!! Well done on your inspection....but wow on the time frame! We have 2 inspections every year. One is scheduled for re-licensing and one is a surprise.

Nope, more making fun of ourselves.
The Sims is a highly popular PC game franchise that's basically like a gigantic animated dollhouse. It's tons of fun. In the game, when you get two Sims to, ahem "do it" it's called "Whoo Hoo"
So, people who play the Sims see "Whoohoo!" and snicker inside because of the double entendre.
lovemykidstoo 07:35 AM 02-21-2013
Ahhh, that is funny!!
WOW 6 years!!!
Mine are always that long and I've had 4 in the last year. We get inspections done quite frequently.
