so its time to get in gear for nice weather (which will hopefully be showing up before too much longer!)

my question is, what ages of kids to you take and what "wheeled items" to you have for use outdoors? ride on toys, trikes, bikes, big wheels, scooters? anything else?

is it weird that in five years of daycare, I have only had one child figure out how to ride a trike? the rest all push with their feet, they dont pedal. or they just sit on it and dont move. i have started to go to scooters only because at least they are more active on that.

I have about 20 lol! 10 feet push cars, 2 pedal trikes, 8 scooters. It might just be my group but they can play on the cars for hours!!

I have a couple different styles of Cozy Coupe type cars, a couple simpler foot powered cars, a couple trikes, a couple 3-wheeled scooters and a 2-wheeler with training wheels. My group is primarily 12mos-3yrs but during the summer I usually have a couple 4yr+. I have 2yr olds that figure the trikes out and 5yr olds that never do. It all depends on the kid.

All of mine love the 3 wheel scooters but what they all fight over are the plasma cars! I don't blame them,I like to ride them myself.

This year it's going to be 18 months to 5 years. I have 2 cozy coupes, a trike (used to be two but then one broke, and it was an awesome old style Radio Flyer one, too!), A couple push ones (like the car that goes with the step two roller coaster, haha), a wagon, and a scooter.

I actively try to teach kiddos to pedal trikes. It's fun for me. I also teach them to swing right too.

I take them til age four.

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-W...0680796&sr=1-1 We buy the tough trikes. (they are cheaper at walmart, or diapers.com.) They last about four years. (it's too hot here for metal bikes) But, past four or five, the trikes would be a little too small. Even the two year olds can pedal those.

They also have an old Little Tykes Gas station from the 80s that they use outside every day.

They have an old playhouse that they play "drive through" and pretend to order ice cream.

I would like some old tires or wooden stumps out there, but haven't done anything about that yet.

If you have a large enough area, what about pedal-less two wheel bikes? They are called Balance bikes, and are sold for all different prices. You can find several kinds on walmart.com.

I second this! DS got one for Christmas and they all love it. They fill it full of leaves, sticks, whatever, wheel it across the yard dump it out and start again. Keeps them very busy. I also have several of these:

I got them from another dcp for $20 and they are tough! We use them in the backyard on the grass and dirt and they go anywhere, very easy for the littles to push.
