SilverSabre25 11:54 AM 02-10-2014
I'm looking to make a "parent pleaser" tomorrow. The targeted age here is 11 mos, 21 mos, 2.5yo (that one's mine, lol). I also have a 5 yo and 6 yo but I'm thinking something "keepsakey" from the youngers. Any super cute ideas?

This is what I'm doing with my kids… nothing fancy but I think they're cute! I have a 4 month old, three 2 year old boys and a 4 year old girl.

I have these wooden hearts and birdhouses. The kids painted the hearts and dh is going to drill a hole in the top so I can put a ribbon through them and they can be necklaces or a decoration. We also painted foam hearts.

My MIL took pics of kids on a pink fleece with hearts on it. I put them on tiles for coasters etc. We are also making oreo truffles. I love what BC did. We may add those into the mix as well.

Wow you all have great ideas! It's funny...I am crazy about holidays and celebrations but never really think to do anything big for the parents for Valentine's Day. We do a lot of crafts this week (including making cards for parents), but nothing specifically FOR them.

When I had an older group, we did the vases that BC is doing, but we did it for mother's day and made muffin liner flowers. Kids loved it. This year I think I am cutting out a heart and making thumbprints all over it with the saying "Thumb body loves you!" and fold it up into an envelop. I know I saw it somewhere, but not sure where. The older child I have may do something extra, but this is what the two littles will do (15 & 18 months)

Have you made these yet? We tried one year, not for valentine's tho and it didn't work. My dd was so disaapointed. Altho, I don't think we used pipe cleaners. I don't recall off hand. Maybe she'll have to try again.

No, I haven't tried them yet but do want to do a trial one just in case they aren't as cool as the ones in the pictures.

I'll do one tomorrow and let you know how it turns out.

As for the thumb prints, I saw this and thought it was a cool idea:

We did something simple today but it ended up pretty cute. Took their thumbs and made pink and red heart shapes, supposed to be flowers. Then we made 2 painted handprints at the bottom of the page, sort of like a vase. Then the kids drew green stems, connecting all the heart flowers to the vase.

I'm doing nothing for the parents. The kids are making crafts each day this week (open ended art with themed supplies), we are having a party and treats and they are handing out valentines. It's enough, imo. We do parent crafts for Fathers Day, Mothers Day and Christmas.

I took pictures of the kids in front of flowers this past summer with their hand in a fist and stretched out. I cut above and below the hand and slide a lollipop in so it looks like they are holding it. This idea is all over pinterest!

Same here.
My kids already made Valentine's Day cards for their loved ones. The older ones (4/5) spelled out words on their cards and envelopes (Mommy, Daddy, and I love you) and were quite proud.

We are going with "One for you, One for me, Valentine". (along with a classic handprint/doily/construction paper Valentine Card)

Birdseed Valentines to share with the birds, Mini-Cheesecake Valentines to share with Mommy & Daddy.

I wonder if they "mail" easily?

I don't know about mailing, but they are easy to make. The recipe is on the box of Philly cream cheese.... Just make them in cupcake liners instead.

I do the initial mixing, then the kids get to "re-mix" theirs in a small bowl before filling their tins. The kids eat the ones they make, the parents receive some of the ones I make....

The drizzle is hersheys kisses, a coffee cup, a micro-wave and a spoon. Real technical...

We are going to put a couple red hot hearts on top, too...

Everyone has put me to shame! We made salt dough hearts & for some reason I thought I'd put them on a cake rack thing in the oven to dry; now they look like waffle fries on one side. My heart waffles for you? My love is ridge-ed? Ack!

We've done borax snowflakes before! I always tell the kiddos it take a few days because some of them don't always turn out and that gives me time to remake them!

My test borax heart didn't turn out. After 24 hours, it has exactly 3 crystals on it.

Love all of these ideas!
My kids and I made some raspberry freezer jam today just for fun, and it occurred to me (duh!) that it'd be a perfect vday gift for the parents! Fill a jar, tie on a tag with a pink handprint and voila

I will probably do something like the handprint one above. All the others are cute and stuff but when you have a 2 and under crowd its just not them doing any of it - its ME making 5 votive holders or ME making borax hearts, etc. At least a handprint/footprint craft requires some input from the little ones.

Try this with the little ones. I did this last year and the parents loved it!

A couple had them framed.

AKA something you are going to have to do 95% of the work to make

I had the "kids" make "love bugs" I got some doily hearts from the dollar store, put it over some construction paper, let them scribble, added handprints, and made it look like a butterfly. I secured it with a glittered clothespin. You could do it on a smaller scale and make magnets.
