What Is Your Vacation/Timeoff/Sick Day Policy?
What is your personal vacation policy and what is the policy you have for your daycare families vacations?
Do you give yourself paid sick days? Paid family emergencys or grievance? Do you allow part time kids to switch days that they miss or if a paid holiday landed on one of their days? At no additional charge? Do you think it would be ok for me to update my contract and change some things if I just changed it and had parents sign a new one a couple months ago? |

Personally, I try not to make any changes unless it's been atleast 6 months. Too many changes at one time is confusing for parents and often times causes parents to seek out other care arrangements but only you know the answer to that and if it would effect your families/clients negatively or not. |

I am closed for 20 days paid (including holidays) and have up to 4 paid sick/personal days to use. I have yet to use one (I even told them I wasn't on an actual sick day and gave credit for it) despite having them.
For most families enrolled, they are only having me close for around 10 days paid because they're part time. MOST of my kids are part timers and no, they are not permitted to switch days. |

I have 3 weeks paid vacation, 4 days paid holiday, 6 paid personal days, and am closed on Fridays. I give a calendar with my closures at the beginning of the school year. Families pay the full tuition regardless of attendance. I do not refund tuition if I have to close unexpectedly due to things beyond my control such as no running water, etc.
Yes, you can update your polices. |

I have 7 paid sick/personal days a year, 12 paid holidays (If they fall on a werkday), and can take 2 weeks unpaid vacation with 1 months notice.

I take 9 statutory holidays plus 2 more so 11 that are paid. Up to 3 weeks vacation unpaid wit a least 1 month notice to parents. I can take off an emergency day without notice but will refund parents. (Have them pay less for their next payment)
Parents get up to 1 week of care free of payment per year with 2 weeks prior notice and pay for all sick days or other canceled days. |

I have my rates set high enough that I do not charge for days I'm closed (planned or not) and I allow families to take 5 consecutive vacation days 1 time per year without charging. For some of the smaller holidays I give them the option of staying home and not paying or treating it as a normal day (Presidents day, Columbus day, etc...). So

11 paid holidays + 1 early closure.
My personal days are unpaid (but averaged into my rates). Families get zero free days. |

They pay 52 weeks a year.
State subsidy pays us for 15 days, no matter why we closed. And this is the first year I've ever gone over that # by 2 days. I don't have an annual calendar or anything but I give parents a long notice of any time I plan to take off, usually at least a couple of months if I can. As far as sick days, I haven't taken any for as long as I can remember. I don't abuse time off. But I sure as he!! could use more. |
